There has been a little said in the Manchester Evening News about the irony that Metrolink will be run by the "same" owners as Southern, even though this is not strictly accurate. The manager has expressed confidence that there will be no acrimonious dispute at Metrolink. Admittedly all trams are opo anyway.
Testing is underway on the Second City Crossing, which is due to open in the next few weeks but no firm date has yet been announced.

It's not the same partnership as runs GTR - no Go Ahead group who are the major partner. Of course it is the same bunch as now run the DLR where there have been all sorts of failures and breakdowns since they took over. Clearly not the same quality as Serco managed. Metrolink is unusual in that the operator has changed every single time the contract has been retendered and I think there's also been one surrender of the contract - Stagecoach??? It will be interesting to see if the new operators have the same competence as has been achieved in recent years in terms of handling major network additions and all the related impacts. MPact-Thales have done a decent job of extending the network in terms of new build but there were dreadful problems with the Tram Management System (TMS). One day I'll make it to Manchester when trams are running in the Centre - last two times nothing was running due to major works. I haven't even been on one of the Bombardier trams or any of the new extensions.

Delays to the TMS are postponing the extension of the Airport service to Manchester Victoria.
