Or you could risk your health and use public transport Or go for the double whammy and use public transport to work, the workplace being public transport Getting back to the mirrors and seat (hearing this about the car, with settings for keys etc is brilliant) are some bus types more awkward than others to set up or does it vary from bus to bus? I'm guessing you (Volvo) learned the awkward way to bring an Allen key to work.....

I don't have that issue in my car, as both front seats have 3 person memory and linked to the mirror (drivers side) aswell. So my Mrs just selects no.2 position after setting her seta and mirrors and that's it. Then wen j get in I just press no.1. That sounds like an excellent invention, never come across it before now....

Volvo , do you have to adjust the mirrors whenever you get into a different bus or do you adjust the seat in order so that you can see the mirrors? Something I've always wondered as positioning mirrors to the drivers needs may be tricky. That must be a bit of a mare, I don't even like the idea of the wife driving our car as the seat (forwards/backwards position, height and recline) and mirrors are totally different and it takes me ages to get back to a position I feel confident in again. I'm guessing with being on the buses all the time you get used to it but I've wondered how much of a hindrance this would be. With changing the seat or mirrors, in the car it has to be mirrors. I can't move the seat, it has to be at the right place for me to feel in control of the pedals

Wow, I wasn't aware of that byelaw and, yeah, time for some humble pie because I was wrong. Apologies. No no no, no humble pie needed, that's the great thing about this forum, these chats get people to find out things. I got a conversation about TVR at a garage totally wrong (garage list thread) recently but was glad when foxhat explained it as I'd learned something. As has been said during this lockdown period loads of good stuff has been shared and I've learnt a bit reading the threads on here

The problem you potentially have dropping to hourly, especially at night when people don't want to hang around, is people may simply stay away from using it full stop and use more quicker alternatives instead What about an N28/N31 scenario? Run more than one route at an hourly frequency to give a more frequent uniform service over a common section. Looking at the current N28/N31 timetable I hadn't realised the frequency had gone up. It had been hourly on each as far as I can remember......

Absolutely horrible. At least the driver had it in them to use the testing kit and preserve some evidence assisting the assailant getting caught. If local officers identified the guy from the CCTV I'm guessing he might be well known to them.....

One driver I know personally died 2 weeks ago, gutted. A lot of people were ill with it, including myself, thank God I didn't end up in hospital as a few I know have been admitted one still inside after 3 weeks. I'm really sorry to hear this, both for the driver you worked with and for yourself being unwell. Hopefully you're feeling a lot better than you were and the driver still in hospital gets well soon. A very sorry business.

Its actually a criminal offence to trespass on certain property - for example, trespassing on a railway is a criminal offence and I’d imagine trespassing on the grounds of a bus depot, regardless of whether damage or theft was done, is also a criminal offence. Yep - it's in section 9 of the TfL Road Transport Premises Byelaws: content.tfl.gov.uk/road-transport-premises-byelaws.pdfByelaws correspond up to level 3 of the standard scale - a £1000 fine. Bit old but still stands, the level is mentioned in section f on page 2: content.tfl.gov.uk/Item10-Road-Transport-Premises-Byelaws.pdf

That's not the first time I've heard something like this about Slade Green. I recall LC1 saying one 89 schedule had a 2 minute stand in Slade Green and a 20 minute stand in Lewisham at the request of the union.

That's a really nice video and something for Epsom Coaches to be proud of, tinged with sadness though knowing what happened afterwards

Newham has plenty of form here but that is a rant for another thread and day. A quick search on twitter shows instances of LBN issuing letters to people who live on included streets. I wouldn't trust them to have executed this fairly or properly. Blimey, I hadn't heard people living local to the bridge had received letters too! Agree, I have heard Newham have previous for this sort of thing and I shouldn't be surprised, a bit like having reservations about this bus lane appeal.....

Newham have installed enforcement cameras on the bridge section of Browning Road southbound (northbound has been restricted for years) limiting permitted traffic to residents on a list of local streets, plus buses and service/emergency vehicles. The amount of ratrunning traffic between Romford Road and HSN has dropped off sharply as a result and it is noticeably less grief getting through that section. Though it only takes one person to cut into the single-track sections between pullover points as the bus comes in and the negotiations have to start - the standard of driving in East Ham leaves something to be desired and you do get chancers. School run times are of course still tight! Yes I know! I got two warning letters from Newham Council about this. It's been really badly done, the scheme isn't signposted very well, my in-laws (who have lived in Newham for a very long time) have had letters as well, even people I know at work who live in the area have had them. There's a number plate recognition camera on Browning Road bridge, and the permitted list of vehicles are residents who have a parking permit for the area, black cabs, buses and emergency service vehicles. Even people my wife knows in the area think it's poorly worked out, there's so much scope for drivers such as minicab drivers and delivery drivers to get caught out which in turn puts the residents at a disadvantage. In the process, this has made Romford Road even worse! Nobody (that I know) is very happy about it and see it as very sneaky by Newham Council. I'm expecting a letter from them regarding my appeal in a few days, I managed to get a bus lane fine by taking action to avoid an accident (and before anyone says anything, it was a legal journey within Covid-19 restrictions delivering goods to my elderly mother-in-law, who has health issues and can't go very far - well, as far as the front door ).....

Hello me please, I live in Upper Belvedere and the N89 is my closest route, however if you live around Nuxley Village you have a cuffing long walk from Erith, a big black hole in terms of service. The 422 and 99 are very early starters with the 422 starting at 4am and ending at 2am! I do wonder why this gap couldn't be bridged by a slight reduction in freq in the evening/morning to provide a 24hr service. I use the N1 & N89 a lot and have wondered why the N53 has never been reinstated to Erith. Don't touch the N1, it's bloody quick. I've done TCR to home in 56 mins before by connecting to a 422. Fastest I've ever made it home from there. Also it is heavily used. Bit late to this but I agree, I used to live in Plumstead and wondered many times about the (N)53 continuing along the 99 route. You are right the Upper Belvedere/Nuxley area is a huge chunk which is unserved and it always bemused me how the situation came to be (I don't think replacing the area night bus with the N89 when the old N53 was cut was a very suitable substitute at all). There's no way I would recommend getting an N1 and walking around Bostall Hill at 2am (say), and as you mention the other options are really long as well. I don't think your 422 idea is unreasonable, I'm certain the tender specs could be altered at certain times to bridge the gap with the same or similar resources. Is the N1 fast these days? I used it on a handful of occasions because I found it to be very long! Mind you this was before the rerouting when the N199 was invented. 53 all the way for me, even though I did have to walk a little way home from Plumstead Station. The connections with the N1 in Woolwich were a bit hit and miss, the 53 at the time being a 20 minute service and the N1 every 30 minutes. Some connections were very good so I used to change there, sometimes I'd use the connection time to go into the 24 hour Tesco and get things. The downside was that I had no 4G in the store so couldn't keep a proper eye on my bus stop app

The P10 was apparently going to cross the 'five estates' but I'm not sure where that actually is. I'm assuming it would have then come out on the Old Kent Road then followed the P13 (now P12) to Canada Water. Five estates - Gloucester Grove, Willowbrook, Camden, Sumner and North Peckham. There's a map a short scroll from the top of this: municipaldreams.wordpress.com/2016/10/25/the-five-estates-peckham-part-iii/Basically Burgess Park north side, Southampton Way west side, Willowbrook Road east side, Peckham Road south side and Commercial Way running through.

I too feel incredibly sorry for those involved at the situation at EB. The garage itself won numerous awards to service and its facilities, all for this now to be flushed down the toilet for some money saving by a larger company which quite frankly couldn't give a toss about sentiment or any of that. I was a regular on the 293 during the Quality Line Citaro days and one nickname I heard used (well, from my landlord at the time) was 'Quality Shine' as the vehicles were always seen to be in good condition. There were some really professional, polite and friendly drivers on there too. The last I saw of most of the drivers from the Quality Line 293 was when I used to see them on the S3 in North Cheam Sainsburys car park. The route wasn't the same after the Metrobus Scanias took it over and I moved away from the area in 2010, so haven't seen it in the more recent RATP operation. EDIT: My ex-landlord (another one!) reckons the training at EB was top notch. The training guy for EB (initials T.T) was his trainer at London Coaches Wandsworth many years ago and apparently was one of the best in the business. I have heard quite a few accounts that a lot of hard work went into operating EB.
