One that's grew on me in recent times is the 55 reg VLA as I ride GRs ones nearly everyday alongside 1st gen DWs

1. ZF Volvo Olympian - any with a working kickdown - admired the agility and liked the shrieking whine when floored in 1st. 2. ZF Euro 2 Trident - specifically those with V3xx KGW and X20x UMS plates - aggressive, beastly sounding buses. The engine had character - fast and kicked down with a bang. 3. ZF Volvo B7TL (6 speed) - 55 plate VLA and VW classes Fortunately I've been lucky enough to drive all three types in service - and had passengers YouTubing the occasions! Only single decks I've really liked are the MAN 14.240s and Citaros. I quite like the grunt of the Euro 5 variant - and the screaming turbos some of the Euro 3 bendies had. Other batches I have an appreciation for are uprated Euro 3 ZF Tridents and DB300s - very quick when working properly. The only Voith buses I like are Euro 3 and 4 Tridents - there are a few drivers out there who have gotten the hang out of how to handle them and clearly enjoy hammering them. Also the SPDs, for the pronounced wail when floored and the unique screeching retarder! When I was little I really liked the Pointer 2 Darts - thought they were far more stylish than the goyle-esque R-FOO Darts on the P4 I used from primary school. The crisp engine note of the London Links Citybuses was cool and the interiors were something else! Never did get into any London spec Leylands really. I found the interiors somewhat garish - bright yellow walls in the Ts really didn't do it for me and didn't like the ZF gearbox the Ls and Ts had. I favoured the ZF Ecomat. One bus I'm sure I would have liked had I had more exposure to them was the Dennis Arrow. Pity the whole YouTubing of bus rides wasn't a thing in the step entrance era! The proper L's & the T's didn't have ZF gearboxes even though I thought the same years ago lol - the Titan has a 5 spd Hydracyclic gearbox except for T684 which has a 3 spd Voith box whilst the majority of L1-263 had semi auto boxes (would guess they are hydracylic ones as well but not sure) although 41 of N's examples were retrofitted with 3 spd Voith boxes when they were refurbished in the early 00's.

Thought this would be a good idea for you to share your thoughts on what your favourite bus/buses that are/were in London. To start off with my favourite buses are VLW80, VLW128, DLA36, DLA621, DLA622, DLA623, DLA625, VLP18, VLP25, VLE27, VLE32 & VPL213. Why on earth VLW128, that bus was annoyingly slow. It was the bus no one wanted to drive. Took forever to build up boost pressure. Even after they repainted it a few years ago, it was the bus to be subbed.

A favourite bus of someone's doesn't have to be fast - the SPD's weren't the quickest of buses but they're probably my favourite batch of Darts I've ever ridden. And then there's the super slow DLA63 - to reach gear 3 took years but it became a favourite of mine weirdly.

Mine would have to be the Leyland Titan, MCW Metrorider, Leyland Lynx. Others that I like are AEC Routemaster, Leyland National, Optare Delta, Wright Handybus bodied Dennis Darts, E400h City, Dennis Dart SLF/Plaxton Pointer.
Some great drives are; Euro3 Dennis Trident with 4 speed Voith, euro 3 dennis Dart SLF with Alison 4 speed, Euro 4 E200 with Alison gearbox, Euro 4 E400 with 5 speed ZF, early euro 5 DB300/Wright Gemini2 with 4 speed Voith Volvo B7TL/Gemini with 5 speed ZF euro3 SB120/Cadet, very ferocious bus when kickdown was installed and torquey. The setup was even faster than on the Dart SLF. euro3 DB250/ALX400
Worst drives had to be the early ALX200 Dennis Dart SLF up until it got a milf facelift in 2000. They would shake your fillings out, deflate your nutsack, catapult the bus over speed humps, flex the chassis, feel every hole and crevice in the road, fault lowering suspension, brake fade. The 10.2m model at times you had to stand up to literally get the thing to stop with the crappy inadequate drum brakes.

There was no ZF in early Leyland Olympians nor Titans. It was Leylands own hydracylic gearbox. They were 4 speed. Used to start in second all the time, unless you had preselect first. The last years of the Leyland Olympian when they started using Cummins engines, they fitted ZF gearboxes. They used to be dangerously fast.

The L LS & T class could be worked in a sort of manual by selecting 1st gear and changing up by literally going to nuetral then back into the same gear position to change down a gear kick down was required and the gearbox would drop a gear until lever was put into neutral and back into the same gear position this also worked on DMS2205 which was fitted with a Maxwell gearbox

Since being at GR it's condition is actually alright and it's one I get on often, it's the only one of the 4 at GR in constant service right now.
