I have heard from a source at TfL that route branding will be making a comeback to encourage passengers to use buses more:
Route branding is to be trialled in the Barking and Hayes areas for around 6 months. Buses will have their places of interest, and route frequency on the side of the bus, some below the lower deck windows and some where the bus adverts currently are, and on the backs of buses. Around 70% of a route's allocated vehicles will be branded, allowing for some fleet flexibility. Stewart Signs will be applying the branding.
I've seen a photo of Arriva VLA 18 with route branding applied for the route 19, with places of interest in large white letters: Finsbury Park, Highbury, Soho, Knightsbridge, Chelsea, Battersea..."every 6 mins"
I don't have a photo of the bus, but someone else here may be able to get one!
Interesting times and routebound (or not) buses!

Edit: You should just about be able to make out what I mean on this shot of what became VDN34218 Edit 2: It's also too early for April Fools haha

Very interesting! I can sense the early 2000's making a slow return.

I wonder what routes it will be applied on. The ELT routes for Barking and Route 607 for Hayes might be good routes to try them on initially.

X26 would have be a good bet too, considering the minor 'uniqueness' of its fleet.

X26 would have be a good bet too, considering the minor 'uniqueness' of its fleet. I've seen a visualisation for the X26 with double decker buses, and a line diagram along the side advert pane...but of course, it's only conceptual so can't be confirmed what routes will be getting the branding..

I don't remember...route 607 had the red and white Volvo NC buses in a similar livery to the D1 Docklands Express buses with route branding.

Interesting times and routebound (or not) buses! Should have been done years ago. There was too much standardisation over the years why most of this stuff went off the scene and the old excuse of operators using wrong bus on wrong route. Could easily be applied to one route buses i.e. 184, 149 etc. Doesn't have to be all of the allocated fleet, so there is flexibility for a few others o be used on other garage loans etc.

Interesting times and routebound (or not) buses! If they do decide to brand the buses for the 19 it'd help if they get the frequency right! The 19 hasn't run every 6 minutes for years, and even then that was only during the am peak.
