Customer Service and Operational Performance Committee 13 Feb content.tfl.gov.uk/csopp-20190213-agenda-and-papers.pdfNot read it yet, but there is a Bus Strategy update (starts page 209) Page 82, scheduled buses operating fell to 97.5% in Q3 Page 127 list of forthcoming consultations (includes 8 routes in Harrow, changes to 92 in Ealing, and 440, E3, E10 changes, 492, 428 Crayford and 393 in Kentish Town) Page 231 mentions cutting inner London and also a Barnet area consultation affecting 30 routes Page 234 two electric doubledeck routes 43 & 134, with more to follow Page 236 still considering demand responsive mini buses Very old post, so apologies, but I wonder what ‘treat’ is in store for the 492? I am already aware of course of the proposed 428 shortening...

A bus related snippet in the Board Papers update on the Mayor's Transport Strategy. Wonder what joys are going to be inflicted on bus passengers in Wimbledon? 'Saving significant bus passenger hours' is an interesting phrase. I'm intrigued by what it means. A traditional reading would suggest higher frequencies and more direct services so less time wasted in interchange. This doesn't fit with the current direction of travel. The phrase is meaningless or, alternatively, it can mean anything you want it to, which amounts to the same thing. Alice in Wonderland meets Yes Minister. As you suggest, it will almost certainly not meet with universal acclaim amongst actual passengers, as opposed to notional ones. 131 extension to Clapham Park at 57's expense, anyone?

492 only going to Dartford I believe I would suggest leaving the 428 as it is and withdrawing the 492 between Dartford and Bluewater. Ah right : thanks. Rare that I’d agree with a shortening of a route but in this case it should hopefully protect North Cray and the back streets between Crayford and Dartford from the worst excesses of Bluewater traffic. The roads between Dartford and Bluewater are well served by Arriva KT routes.

It includes the draft Annual Report and Accounts. I've had a skim through but I couldn't see much of interest / import. There's the usual end of year stats - buses down to 2,200m pass jnys last financial year. Scheduled KMs is 10m down on the previous year. Subsidy on the bus network is around the £650m mark. TfL still don't have a much of a clue as to why demand is subdued. Tube up, other modes pretty static barring TfL Rail which is up because of the takeover of the Heathrow Connect service. The rest of the other papers in the pack are very dry financial and audit stuff. Still waiting for the route level bus patronage spreadsheet to be updated - no sign of it yet.

The main reason I would give in all honesty for being less inclined to use buses is increased traffic, removal of bus priority measures in places and padded timetables resulting in off peak buses often running slowly and constantly waiting at stops. The addition of 20mph zones won't help much I belive on terms of usage.

Also of note in the Hospital buses review is a reference to a review of services serving Northwick Park hospital with a possible new link from South Harrow. Hmm, I wonder if my 395 proposal might actually come true lol Given that appears in the section linking Harlesden to Northwick Park, could it even be an extension of the 487? That would be incredibly useful.
