St Mary’s Hospital (Paddington) Provide links to the Elizabeth line. All the routes that run outside St Mary's Hospital will all be providing a link to the Elizabeth Line. More pertinently it is a viable walk for all but the most disabled from the Crossrail station at Paddington to the Hospital anyway. The station will be fully accessible too. I may be being very naive but if people are in genuine difficulty, pain or distress in trying to use public transport to access a hospital then are they not able to ask for an ambulance or patient transport to convey them?

Well the Epsom Hospital is an easy one, extend the 406 to Kingston Hospital, slightly worried though that there is limited room with the K2 and K4 already standing there, You could cut back the K2 to Cromwell Road to allow room for the route. And that would bring on the howls of anguish from those on the K2 route who would lose their hospital access. Buses to hospitals are *always* in addition to existing services, never a subsititute. Come on Forum members - remember that the destination blind of every bus route in London should have the world "Hospital" on the front.

I've picked out the two that immediately caught my eye for various reasons: Croydon University Hospital (Thornton Heath) - Extend an existing route to give a direct link to parts of AddiscombeI suspect this is some sort of reference to the murmuring of an extension of the 130 to Mayday Hospital Croydon University Hospital given that the 289 already links the main part of Addiscombe to the hospital. Kings College Hospital (Denmark Hill) - Traffic congestion in the area results in extended journey times and so bus priority measures could be implementedThe hospital of my birth and my local one, well good luck implementing any bus priority measures given Coldharbour Lane & Denmark Hill already both have a bus lane towards Camberwell avoiding most of the traffic other than right at the junction between the two roads. I suppose it will end up with something like at Stockwell if implemented where buses start ahead of the rest of the traffic? I also notice every hospital in Table 2 except for my local one is listed as some sort of new bus route being needed - so they've included that King's College is an exception to this? Before anyone says, I'm not asking for any new links, just musing as to why this is an exception. i think the one on KCH is referring to Ambulances that park in the northbound bus lane. With the new critical care unit opening imminently this may only exacerbate the issue. Based on the reduction in car parking space at the hospital, there may be a greater will to support higher numbers of public transport use.

General Practitioners refer patients to hospitals that cary the speciality they need to be seen for. e.g. Patient lives in Epsom has back problems they may need to be seen in Kingston Hospital as they specialise in this unlike Epsom Hospital (please note just an example may not actually be correct). Emergency care is obviously different in that you will go to wherever is closest to you.

Living in Surbiton my wife attends Kingston Hospital, where she has in the past been referred to St. Georges Tooting and the Brompton in Chelsea. Fortunately we have a car, but the link to Kingston Hospital from Epsom would certainly assist those who are less physically able

That's fair enough but Kingston Hospital doesn't have room for the K2, K4 and a route from Epsom not to mention that if the 406 or 418 is chosen, you would be duplicating the 57 & 213 (and 85 though it doesn't stop right outside the hospital) unlike the K2 & K4 which run via Norbiton Station.

A link from Feltham to Ashford Hospital used to be provided by an hourly spur from the 117 ( in Westlink days) Not possible now because everything must run end to end with no deviations or short turns !
So now it would require a new route.

Tbh the best excuse for not diverting the 5 (and a very valid one) is that it will add about 8-10 mins onto the Journey time which would make travelling from Romford to Barking and Canning Town quote a bit longer which wouldn't be totally fair for regular users of what is quite a busy route. On a similar theme I seem to recall a case being made for the 371 to serve Kingston Hospital but again it would be too time consuming for other passengers.

Traffic rarely builds up between Champion Park & De Crespigny Park even when ambulances are parked in the bus lane - traffic generally builds up from De Crespigny Park into Camberwell Green with the southbound bus lane taking buses past the traffic up to the Coldharbour Lane junction. I'm aware that Kings College is also used by people not in Southwark & Lambeth due to being a major hospital that provides certain facilities but the majority of people who use it are local and/or from Lambeth & Southwark and transport links to the hospital have been very good for many years - there is very little improvement needed outside of maybe an extra route along Coldharbour Lane running into parts of Lambeth not well linked with the hospital to kill two birds with one stone in the sense of extra capacity along Coldharbour Lane in the peaks and a new link from elsewhere.

Perhaps there could be a new route via the 117 to Ashford then to the hospital. The timetables could be matched to make it every ten minutes on the common section.
The West Middlesex-Ealing link can be solved by extending the E2 to there, additionally opening up the hospital to Greenford as well.
The 406 and/or 418 could be extended to Epsom Hospital (the 406 has one journey a day but it should become a daily service) and to Kingston Hospital and stand in Norbiton Station, linking Epsom Hospital with Kingston and Kingston Hospital
The Hopper fare is useful here but most people going the hospital but a) the vast majority of people do not want to change buses when it's cold/raining etc, b) many users are quite unwell so changing buses may be difficult and c) some journeys could last longer than an hour and/or involve more than two buses.
