From my casual weekend observations for the 25 is not needed passed Aldgate on the weekend, it serves no purpose and carries minimal passengers to City Thameslink! Every time I have tried changing there a 8 has just departed so have a wait....
Every Journey matters of course
Well I went on the ‘revised’ 25 for the first time a couple of weeks ago-ish, all the way from Stratford to St. Paul’s on a Wednesday about 10:30am. The bus was very busy from Stratford (at least one person on every row of seats per side) and there was still about 15-20 people left up until St. Paul’s where most including myself got off. So I’d say the section isn’t dead, but nothing a single decker couldn’t handle. I would imagine (but can’t say for sure) evening peak loadings towards Ilford would stillbe quite heavy from commuters getting on at Bank. My obs are only based on weekends as above I am sure its still well used during the week but the City / Bank area is dead at weekends and just don't see the demand.

I really do want the 25 to still be the busiest route when the 2018 patronage numbers come out, but I’m really doubtful it will be. The 425 will have sucked some of its passengers out and the new City Thameslink (or Sh*tty Thameslink as I call it) terminus will also have done some damage. However the next three busiest (18, 29, 149) all suffered significant decline last year while the 25’s bucked the trend, so maybe the inevitable fall the 25 is going to get won’t catch up to the next three as it’s still the busiest by a huge margin (well over 3 mill between the 25 and 2nd place). Re the 425, it’s recent frequency increase has done the existing section of the route a whole world of good. Before the extension, peak buses used to be busy (but never full) from my observations but since its increase I’ve seen some properly full 425’s now (on its existing section) so it’s clearly attracted more people to the route.

The number of people I have seen changing from the 25 to the 8 at City Thameslink is surprisingly higher than I would have expected. The change is a complete farce and I would rather TFL had extended TTs contract than cutting the route back to reduce the number of new buses that need to be ordered. I think its safe to say there is little need for the route west of Aldgate outside of peak hours. TFL's failiure to provide adequate mitigation has, in my experience lead to a drop in patronage, passengers vote with their feet and changing twice is not going to appeal to many. I don't use the 25 regularly but to anyone who does, have you seen an influx of people getting on/off at Bow Church to get on the 8?

Farcical aswell is that City Thameslink dosent even open on Sunday's showing the lack of custom in the City area.

Interesting isn't it how if you set out to wreck a bus route and actually do it that people stop travelling altogether? OK parts of the City are quiet at weekends but it is VASTLY busier these days than it was in the 1980s (or earlier). Being in the City at weekends back then was like being in a science fiction programme where almost everyone had been exterminated or killed by the plague. You were surprised if you saw another person and half expected aliens to appear round a corner. There is much more activity now but if you wreck the one convenient and cheap way to get there people are not going to bother. Yes I know there is the Tube but not everyone wants to travel that way. It dawned on me the other day that the Baker St works will have severely damaged travel plans for a lot of people over the last few days. Coupled with the inevitable marches and demonstrations I was left wondering how people who hate the tube or cannot access it or cannot afford it actually got anywhere? The mass abandonment of bus service overlaps and reduced frequency and capacity is a really really stupid policy when you have a social objective, as TfL has, to ensure people of all ages and abilities can travel around the City.

Used route 8 from City Thames Link today, the bus was rammed solid to the drivers widescreen. My 25 From Aldgate had the usual 10 or so passengers.

It's been announced on the BBC that the opening of Crossrail will be 2 years late Wonder what happens now with the bus changes? I think the 497 will probs still go ahead

I passed the proposed Custom House Bus stand today. Work stalled because of the pandemic but pretty much complete now!
The space is tight you can probable get two bus to stand here but not sure about locating a stop to pick up - The 147/474 would probably retain the existing stop.

You know the paving area in the foreground, would they of been able to extend that further or does the paving area lead to somewhere to the right of the pic?

I always thought the entrance/exit looked quite tight to get buses in and out of.

I always thought the entrance/exit looked quite tight to get buses in and out of. It is fairly tight - I guess they could make adjustments if / when they decide to proceed with the bus changes. Looking at historic streeview images it seems the works might have just returned the site back to how it was prior the Crossrail taking over the site.
