No direct right turn onto NCR but if bus goes straight on at lights then takes first right just beyond the BP garage then this road will connect to northbound NCR. Will be good for buses as artics regularly use this road.

TFl wanted to run the E10 along that road when they wanted to extend it to Chiswick Business Park but the extention was stopped because the residents along Gunnersbury Drive didn't want buses along that road. Well that's what I heard.

I wonder why TfL didn’t discontinue the 698 after creating the 278 bar West Drayton they pretty much go to the same place.

Ah I see - makes more sense now That would be a great idea - that part of London is so poorly served by night buses! Literally every station except Ealing Common, Sudbury Town and Uxbridge on that branch has no night bus service from central London and some stations don’t have a night bus at all. Hmm, an N487 of sorts? 🤔🤔 Sorry for the frustrated tone in my above post. No problem. Is this on their consultation hub ? If not, why not ?

You've probably answered your own question. There may be a significant school flow across Shepiston Lane (i.e. between the 222 section of the route and the future 278 section). Certainly was decently busy when I went on the afternoon single decker a few years ago.

I would assume TfL have looked at the Oyster data and checked with the school and concluded a through bus is still needed. No one knows how well the 278 will run so having the school route in reserve makes sense. It may end up being scrapped once travel patterns stabilise.

I think there was also an assumption when this consultation whent live that Douay Martyrs were going to enlarge their intake. Planning permission for expansion was subsequently refused, but the concentration of students from the Hayes & Harlington area is still increasing. I'm guessing that the first 698 casualty post 7th Dec will be that one dupe timed 1 min behind.

I had a long wait for the 266 at Hammersmith today. The bus picked up huge loads of people leaving Hammersmith, by Hammersmith Town Hall the bus was completely packed. The driver in his infinite wisdom shouted at the passengers, 'what are you all going to do in six weeks time when the 266 is cancelled, and you'll have a small single decker to cram on to.' He is of course well off the mark with the 306 coming in on 7th December.

Yes, he's certainly right that the 218 will be carnege, I've ranted about the flaws of the 218/266/306/391 proposals on numerous occasions so I won't do so now.

I think it will be so disastrous they'll be a U turn. It's actually quite insane and must cost tfl more money as they've created two pointless routes because of it.
