Yes the 53 is fine as it is and yes Blackheath would lose the link to zone 1 although Greenwich would gain another link to zone 1. It was actually a PD driver that suggested this and in the current climate it's difficult to see any other way of cost effectively increasing the level of service between Woolwich and Greenwich although obviously there are swings and roundabouts. As you say a frequency increase on the 177 is unlikely. Sadly you can't really call the 53 a zone 1 link anymore. It still reaches County Hall, it’s not a West End link for sure sadly but it’s terminal is in Zone 1

All appears calm on the 177 and 180. Interesting that SLN blind is Erith with a Fraser Road qualifier compared to GALs version which was Erith Quarry. 180’s looked to be dawdling along maybe the timetable will be tweaked in future. The 177 looked OK but lets see how it goes in a few hours.

Abbey Wood you can now get to North Greenwich as well as Woolwich on both sides of the road. No idea what route is faster though probably the 472.

I’d need to measure, but the 472 would I think be longer mileage wise from Abbey Wood to Woolwich, but would likely encounter less traffic and also run on better roads. Probably not a lot in it.

From stops A/B on Harrow Manorway, the 180 is timetabled to be slightly faster than the 472 although as you'll know buses along Plumstead High Street are often delayed. I haven't used the rerouted 472 yet but I'd expect it to be slightly faster most of the time.

The heavy cynic in me thinks this happens because E/SE London is very heavily reliant on buses, so TfL has to try harder to wean passengers off them onto more expensive transport modes. When you can’t outright stop someone doing something, so you make it more expensive instead …

Even with the Elizabeth Line opening I can’t see a big shift from buses.

Gave the new 180 a try on my way home this afternoon, from North Greenwich to Erith (not the final little bit to the Quarry).
Was more than reasonably popular on the new eastern section. I think it will do well. Will try part of the new 469 later next week, and at some stage see how the 177 is doing without the 180 to help between Woolwich and Greenwich.

Now it falls into place as to why you support such an unpopular bus change you live in Erith 🤪 Also I used the 177 today, and it was busier than usual, maybe this will settle down but there were a fair few disgruntled passengers at the extra passengers, especially when changing at Greenwich for Lewisham
