It seems the Temporary route 733 will be weekday only Makes sense really as the City branch is not as busy as the Charring Cross line even with the tube being busier at weekends. Guessing this also made the bus replacement cheaper! The City branch is still very busy at weekends as Bank was a station I often visited to interchange up until a few months ago - I'd be amazed if all of a sudden, it's now nowhere as busy between then and now.

You took what I said wrong, it's not as busy as week day! I pass the interchange from the Central most weekends and it's not as busy as weekdays.

I suppose if passengers used Bank as an interchange rather than a final destination, then it doesn’t matter too much, as there is the alternative of Tottenham Court Road for Central line and Embankment for Circle and District lines

I don't think I was very clear in my reply earlier. I can understand why the 733 is Monday - Friday as it will support commuters in the city (Yes more and more are going back). During the weekend leisure passengers are not so restricted by time so for example those who would catch the Northern Line at Bank can go 3 stops to Tottenham Court Road which is 10 - 15 mins max. Only 4 stations are really affected Bank, London Bridge, Borough and Elephant there local buses at weekend should have plenty of capacity for "Local" trips.
Its not ideal I know but TfL are broke. I think the previous replacement 533 ran similar?

The 558 you mean?, that route only ran on weekdays when the Walthamstow end of the Victoria line was shut for few weeks in Summer 2015. Ideally I would like to see the 733 run weekends even on a lower frequency than weekdays but it's better than not having any extra route on weekday peaks when that part of the Northern Line shut for few months.

If the Elizabeth line is really going to open in the first half of 2022, then I would argue the closure should be delayed until it opens.

No I mean when the line was closed in the 90s there was a replacement service. When it was closed back in the 90s, I seem to remember the 133 was enhanced with extra buses between Moorgate and Kennington, which basically sounds like what the 733 will be (except will run further to Oval). I also seem to recall the enhanced 133 also ran beyond Moorgate to Euston/Kings Cross during evenings and weekends

Also the last southbound trip was meant to continue to Morden on request (never tried that one in practice).

No, it was when the new Southbound platform tunnel at London Bridge was linked up. What is now the middle concourse, was the southbound tunnel From memory the new step plate Junction at Borough end was built before temporary closure, but the river was too near to crown of tunnel to do that at other end so standard size tunnel was cut into alignment of existing blocking old route. Angel didn’t require more than a weekend to divert the tracks, but was closed for few weeks because new escalators shaft couldn’t be finished whilst old entrance was still in use (the low building on corner of Torrens Street, which now has light blue wall tiles). I remember this entrance, as I has few weeks of training course at Angel in late 1980s, and waiting for the lifts (I think only 2 were working by then) at about 08:45 meant walking up stairs was often quicker (and it was a lot of stairs).

For anyone curious / nostalgic about the old Angel station, the 1989 BBC documentary "Heart of the Angel" is available on youtube - first part here. Lots of footage of those lifts in (or out of) action.
