NMCC has now implemented a code blue restriction due to the number of calls due to icy conditions. Code reds are still available to make.

Snow really settling now in the east! Can see potential disruption in the morning with icy and snow.
Could we see another 2008? that was the last really bad snow where there was widespread transport disruption.
I believe it was January 2009, when TfL pulled everything off the road. 2010 December and 2017 December also had bad disruption with buses taken off the road at certain parts of London. Out is Essex it is really bad, nice to see though

Ignoring the usual tabloid silly headlines Heads Up The synoptic pattern on weather models is showing unusually cold weather heading towards UK, with potentially some heavy snow in places during mid December. The jet stream that brought very wet November has allowed a deep cold pool to form in Siberian area and it appears the jet stream is moving south allowing cold area to tumble towards UK Very similar Synoptics to 2010 and 1981 There will be at least 2 weeks (probably lot longer) weather with temperatures at least 5c below average, there is some indication that could turn even colder third week of December with winds from Arctic via Scandinavia. Snow is hard to predict, but air passing over the relatively mild North Sea will pick up moisture then drop it as snow as it passes over land. There also appears to be predictions of various weak low pressure areas, generally to south and over the English channel, far to early to know exactly where these will be, but the interaction with these could locally bring quite hefty snowfalls. The interesting part is under some scenarios the weather would be very cold, colder than a bit of salt sprinkled around would be able to cope with, might temporarily thaw some, but the salty water would probably freeze again at night. Therefore if you drive, make sure you have all season or winter rated tyres (they carry a 3PMSF three peak mountain with snowflake symbol), anyone with summer only tyres will probably skid, slide and fail to get up even a gentle hill (or fail to stop going down). If anyone is too young to remember December 1981 snow (which lasted until late January), then Google it, will get plenty of pictures to show you, and yes buses did run, and not hide away. Treat as a heads up, keep well insulated, and offer to shovel snow for any elderly neighbours etc well the snowman got it right....

It was 2 February 2009, just checked out my pics. I would not forget that Monday morning, I was meant to drive the route 20, ended up staying the whole day at the garage.

Snowing heavily down here in Croydon. I love how snow brings a calming effect especially to a major city like London.

My local back roads are very bad now. Buses still running but very infrequent! Not sure if they are meant to be on diversion as I have seen only two 147s in the last hour or so.

It's now affecting the underground and overground
Central Line: No service between Liverpool Street and Epping / Hainault due to power supply problems caused by ice on the track. SEVERE DELAYS on the rest of the line. Valid tickets are accepted on London Buses
NO SERVICE between Highbury & Islington - Crystal Palace, West Croydon and Clapham Junction while we clear heavy snow from the track.
