Stunning is the right word for it.

Stunning is the right word for it. I think stunning is a bit of an exaggeration though. Nice to see progress, but feel it is a bit tainted now. Doesn't seem ground breaking anymore.

It is really nice when you visit it in person, however the biggest gripe I had with it is that it feels like you are walking through a whole airport. While it's nice when you might have additional time, when I'm in a rush I don't want to be taking forever navigating a huge building to get down to the trains.

This is on Ilford Hill apparently, there's the main entrance on Cranbrook Road and another entrance on York Road. I've not actually seen this Ilford Hill entrance when driving past recently so I'm not sure exactly where on the Hill it is.

The pathway to the new entrance leads directly into the Ilford Hill bus stand. The bus stand is normally full, so might not be possible to view it driving.

Just to update, Systems Integration Dynamic Testing (trial running of eight trains an hour) began during December. Some signalling and train software issues were identified, which were fixed during a Christmas "blockade" which also allowed construction work to catch up after delays caused by the covid pandemic. Trial running under SIDT recommenced on 13th January.
Farringdon Station and all the ventilator shafts have been handed over to TfL. Plumstead Depot is due to be handed over at the end of this month. Paddington, Tottenham Court Road, Liverpool Street and Woolwich stations have all now achieved Staged Completion 3 (SC3) status. Bond Street is still behind schedule.
The Crossrail team is keen to move on to Trial Running as soon as possible - from that moment Crossrail will no longer be treated as a construction project, but as a live operational railway.
It is still the intention to open for public service during the first half of 2022. It is possible some minor works may be deferred, to be completed at a later date.

It's very unlikely this will happen. On paper it is superficially an easy exercise, but extending the service would mean the class 345s would need to be converted to bi-mode to run on third rail and would have yet another signalling interface to cope with. If anything happens it will be to beef up the Southeastern and Thameslink offerings. All that said, I do like the Bus Rapid Transit ideas - although it would involve a degree of cross-boundary co-ordination between TfL and Kent County Council that does not exist at the moment, and the two authorities have very different public transport remits.

Paddington station is now around 12 weeks away from handover to TfL. The images in the video clip really remind me of the Jubilee Line part of Westminster Station. m.youtube.com/watch?v=BJ5ZMm7kZxM

Out in suburbia one of my favourite stations in London can now been taken off Historic England's "At Risk Register", after a sympathetic rebuild which has seen it retain its essential character whilst becoming fully accessible. The present Hanwell Station dates back to 1877, when it replaced an earlier station on the same site. It has been little changed in the intervening years and was Grade II Listed in 1972, although even then it was in a state of decay. Some remedial work was done in 2000, but under TfL management the station has undergone a thorough renovation. The main new feature is a brick-built lift shaft which gives access to the London-bound platform, this currently carries an anonymous purple roundel which will presumably be lettered "Elizabeth Line" when the time is due. There is also a lift to the Heathrow Airport-bound platform, this was painstakingly constructed with the shaft being excavated by hand to as to avoid damage to the timber canopy. The waiting room has been restored with period features, and a derelict building on the London-bound platform has also been repurposed as a waiting room. Pleasingly the timber-clad areas of the station have been repainted and retain the traditional Great Western Railway cream and golden-brown colours. Old GWR white-on-black signs have also been renovated, including signs on each platform which carry the station's former name of "Hanwell & Elthorne". Platform lighting is in traditional lantern style, although with brighter LED lighting. As part of the renovations the subway has been opened up and the south entrance restored to use, whilst outside the main entrance Ealing Council has pedestrianised and landscaped the approach road.
