Custom House Station extremely busy with a constant stream of passengers heading for the Elizabeth Line! Opened in Perfect time for Comic Con. Didn't think it was gonna be that busy but I stand corrected right next to Excel- will probably take a fair few passengers from the DLR who would normally travel through Canning Town to get there

ThinLizzy have you noticed any changes to travel patterns on the DLR now the Elizabeth Line is open? Is it less busy in the peaks?

I've been off this week, will find out next week when I'm back. I think it will be quieter coming out of Woolwich and Bank in particular.

They are allocated to peak hours but they are also acting as spares. I'm not sure what the diagrams are for them. One comes from sidings and forms 07:51 Shenfield- Liverpool Street, think it then goes back empty to Ilford depot In afternoon 15:38 Shenfield - Liv St, 16:30 Liv St - Shenfield, ?? return and 18:15 Liv St - Shenfield (which then goes in sidings to form following mornings train But I think they might be 315 only when a 345 isn’t available When I last looked were only 6 units left (might be less now), and I think they no longer carry any branding Thanks for the info From what I read there's only 3 left

IIRC a few 345 units still need to be converted form 7-car to 9-car before through services commence in the Autumn.

I think a few people are going to be disappointed when they turn up at the station today and find there is no Sunday service at the moment.
I think it's fair to say that it's been a great success already and hopefully Crossrail 2 comes to fruition.
The only gripes I've heard are about the lack of toilet facilities and almost every train getting stopped on approach to Abbey Wood awaiting a platform, maybe turnarounds can be speeded up a bit with drivers stepping back?

So today was a day for the history books, so I couldn't not make an excuse to ride the Elizabeth line today!! After work I headed to Custom House from Whitechapel and my God, what a short but intense experience. The ceiling design over the escalators as you descend looked theatrical, almost evangelic and totally unlike anything the current Tube network has! Futuristic as well as future proof was my takeaway from the overall experience from the platforms and concourses. It's unfortunate that I don't live closer to their stations but I can't wait to incorporate in the Lizzie line into my normal journeys. Game changer is an understatement, revolutionary is a tad too modest. 🤓 I had actually end up riding on the first day also, although not on the first train. Went after the morning peak around 11am. I travelled from Liverpool Street to Farringdon, then from Farringdon to Paddington. The stations remind me of the Jubilee line extension with a mass of greyness of concrete and aluminium. The difference is the lack of any tiles compared to the rest of the Underground network. I guess since the 90's tiles are no longer the 'in thing' anymore. The platform underneath the ground looks huge like at Liverpool Street above ground. I guess this is because it is inside, where other outside stations do not look anywhere near as big due to it being open space. One major advantage underneath the ground is that the door open speed is instantly as soon as it stops. This has been an annoying bugbear at stations between Liverpool Street and Shenfield since the 345's were introduced, with a very small handful of drivers would open it this quick. The usual is around 5-10 seconds after the train has stopped for the doors to open. that is one thing the 315's definitely have the edge of instant door opening. The sound of the train in the tunnels sounds very much like the S stock. Strange that it sounds different from hearing it in the open all the time. TfL also cashed in on the day with LT museum selling merchandise at Paddington and they seem to have had good custom too.

Really enjoyed my journey on the Elizabeth Line today. The acceleration on the 345s is so sharp under CBTC it is great. Tottenham Court Road is probably a fav for the curved platform. If you use the tube before or after your journey you can really appreciate the quite nature of the Elizabeth Line. Mostly looking forward to the route connecting at Stratford to speed up my commute even more. The only nitpick I have would be the on train announcements do not say Line eg. Change for Central and Northern. The only time it says Lines is when the Overground is served. I would also like to see more artwork at platform level it is a shame that only Whitechapel has this as it really bring character to the otherwise bland space. All in all it is shame we will not have another line like this for awhile now as this first route is impressive. How long would it last that quiet is another thing to see. I remember the Jubilee line extension sounding very quiet and now some parts are extremely loud.

Do some class 345s have different seating layouts? I noticed some trains seem to have a lot more longitudinal seating than others.

I'm back in London now (for the first time since December 2019) and I have now had my first ride on the Elizabeth Line. I started from the rebuilt Whitechapel, last time I was in London that was still under wraps and the temporary entrance was in use. I now see how it all works together, it is a world apart from the overcrowded rabbit warren that used to be Whitechapel. As an aside, it was also good to see the progress being made with the adminstrative block of the old Royal London Hospital, which is being repurposed as a new Town Hall for Tower Hamlets. The escalators and platforms at Whitechapel are spacious - cavernous even - and a nice touch are the specially commissioned murals from Chantal Joffe representing the diverse community of the area. The trains ride superbly, acceleration is quick, and the trains quiet. I did spot the point where the lines diverge, with the route to Stratford and on to Shenfield bearing off to the left. Tying the outer sections into the Central Core will be the real deal-breaker and will transform the service for millions of passengers. the train arrived at Canary Wharf in under four minutes - phenomenal. At times I could not believe I was actually riding a Metro line in London. The Underground pales by comparison. Just before Custom House the train emerges into the open, it was good to see a Go-Ahead WVL trundling by on the new 304. The train the plunged into the repurposed Connaught Tunnel - the speed and smoothness of the ride a huge contrast to the previous generations of electric and diesel trains that used to rattle through the gloom. Another brief surfacing through Silvertown before the line plunges again to cross the Thames. It was good to see Woolwich ready for the line's opening, especially as there was doubt in the early days that a station would be provided here. The line surfaces again just after Woolwich, the depot and carriage sidings can be seen off to the left as the new Elizabeth Line runs alongside the classic and long-established North Kent Line into the airy and spacious station at Abbey Wood which has been completely rebuilt for its new role. What a beauty. I get to ride it to Paddington tomorrow to get my train home - but I will be back. More about Chantal Joffe - www.crossrail.co.uk/benefits/art-on-crossrail/artwork-at-whitechapel

Something I forgot to mention yesterday. That was the first time since 2006 that I stood at Custom House station and it was not on a DLR platform. I was reminiscing on the Skeleton services Silverlink used to provide. (Believe me when I say those were some dark days 😂😂) and to think I was still a teenager when that part was open in the mid 2000s Limited memories I have of Silverlink (my first train memories were when I was around 5/6 so right before it ended) usually revolve around waiting on a platform for a train that never came or having to deal with extreme crowds onboard. It was a lazy, unreliable operation that did not suit the demand of the lines it served. I loved the Silverlink livery, I do miss it. When it was Network SouthEast, I used to used the North London line, between Stratford and Dalston Kingsland. I miss those 313's especially with the pantograph lowering/raising at Hackney Wick & Dalston Kingsland. I recall back then some trains went via Liverpool Street after Hackney

Anyone know the peak weekday workings that the remaining Class 315’s are scheduled on as I’d like to grab a ride on one I know one guaranteed working is the 23:34 from Liverpool Street.
