Bristol Community Transport, part of HCT Group, ceases operations tonight (Friday 2nd September). Metrobus m1 will not operate over the weekend, but will continue from Monday 5th September with a different (as yet unnamed) operator. Local authorities are working to find alternative operators for eleven other bus routes in and around Bristol. The m1 will be operated by First from Monday. Very strange announcement from First, no weekend service (just listing alternative services), and no mention of what happens on Monday (the timetable is in forthcoming timetables section, but no obvious hint to look in that section and scroll to M1) www.firstbus.co.uk/bristol-bath-and-west/news-and-service-updates/updates/metrobus-m1-alternative-weekend-services

Don't know if this exactly counts as a ceased bus company, but here goes. Just been announced that McGills are to take over the operations of First Scotland East, lock, stock and barrel, from 19 September.

It means we can then ride from Gourock to Edinburgh on just McGills buses. I would not however consider it a ceased bus company. Really just a "realignment" between First and McGills.

Southampton Minilink will cease trading from the close of service this coming Sunday, 9th October. The following was posted on their Facebook page today:
Important customer information
Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances Southampton Mini Link will close after service on 09/10/22.
A limited service will be in operation for the rest of this week details will follow shortly.
I personally have been suffering from some returning health issues over the past few months and my partner has been taken unwell over the weekend. I therefore am unable to dedicate the time to the business as I need to be at home to look after family. We are not a large operator and do not have access to large resources to allow me to do both so I'm very sorry I have to come to this decision.
I thank all of our customers and staff personally for all of there hard work and hope another operator will come forward and step in to cover the routes we operate. The past year has been one of the highlights of my time in the bus industry and we have achieved so much with our popular services in Southampton.
All of our creditors including employees will be satisfied in full with all payments expected to be made no later than 31/10/22. We will be in contact with everyone shortly with more details.
Thank you

The above seems to have now changed following the proprietor finding a manager. Now planned for 14 to end on Friday (7th), a reduced weekday C to run until 28th, current weekend 13A to run until 30th, and then the proposed 13A seven day/week enhancement to commence from 31st.

Southampton Minilink is back on the closure list… again… From their Facebook: Service Update 12/10/22 Despite our best efforts to secure a new manager/owner to take over the business talks with the potential purchaser have broken down. We can confirm as a result of this all Southampton Mini Link operations will cease after 1700hrs on 28/10/22 For details of alternative services please see www.traveline.infoAll roadside publicity will be removed over the next couple of days. We thank you for your custom.

Scarlet Band will cease trading from close of service Saturday 29th October 2022. Several factors are reportedly to blame including the loss of some contracts, break-ins at the yard, issues acquiring spares for vehicles and driver recruitment. They operate a fair number of routes in the Durham and surrounding areas, with a sizable fleet of mostly Optare Solos and Enviro 200s.

They operate a fair number of routes in the Durham and surrounding areas, with a sizable fleet of mostly Optare Solos and Enviro 200s. There is an article about this in the December 2022 issue of Buses Magazine. Although it won some new tenders, it lost its key Durham Park & Ride contract to Gateshead Central Taxis and its Barnard Castle routes to Weardale Motor Services. Closing the company allows the other contracts to be reassigned to these two operators, plus Hodgson's of Barnard Castle, and gives the staff the opportunity to retain their jobs by transferring to the other companies under TUPE regulations.

Aberfeldy Motor Services will cease trading at the end of the year as the owners feel its the right time to retire. A statement on their website reads:
WE HAVE TAKEN THE DECISION TO RETIRE AT THE END OF THIS YEAR.
The past three years have been very challenging due to the ongoing Covid outbreak and all the uncertainty that brought, now we have the financial uncertainty forecast for the coming year and unfortunately Covid has not gone away. The nationwide shortage of drivers has impacted on our operations and we are finding that hotels have been more difficult to deal with as where there used to be a good working relationship, it is all now down to price and profit margins, although we have to say that some of the family run hotels we have dealt with for a number of years have been very accommodating. This is not a decision we have taken lightly as we have been in business for the last 47 years and have run Holiday Tours for 42 years, during this time we have gained not just loyal customers, but good friends.
Our last tour will go out on the 30th December 2022.
Your support has been invaluable to us, especially during the Pandemic and it has meant so much to us to know that we have such loyal customers.
It’s now time for us to pack our suitcase and enjoy a long overdue holiday and we wish you all well.
