Sadly I think we will see more of this during this epidemic.

Sadly I think we will see more of this during this epidemic. I think you'll sadly be right. Particularly coach firms, with the vast majority of school runs and holiday/day trip programmes having to be cancelled, aswell as diaries full of private hires emptying with people cancelling, seeing whole fleets currently parked up! Ensignbus are reporting a 90% fall in patronage, with fears of complete withdrawal of the skeleton service they are currently running due to lack of suitable government support. www.ensignbus.com/news

Ensignbus are reporting a 90% fall in patronage, with fears of complete withdrawal of the skeleton service they are currently running due to lack of suitable government support. www.ensignbus.com/newsI think EnsignBus are ahead of the curve on this. Most bus companies are in denial if they think introducing a Saturday timetable is enough to compensate from the total tanking in passenger demand. Virtually every day last week there has been some announcement or policy change which has driven more people off the buses, with the enforced closure of all social venues on Friday being the last straw. Now we are starting to turn on each other just for going out and getting some sunshine and fresh air! I have been watching the buses passing my window this week and the loadings are now pitiful. I reckon that many companies will have their schedulers hard at work this week and March 30th will see the widespread introduction of draconian cuts and emergency timetables. And if the Government is serious about keeping public transport running for essential workers whilst telling everyone else to stay at home. they need to come up with cash. There is no other way. I'm not sad. I'm angry. I'm ******* furious.

White Bus in Berks/Surrey have also taken more drastic action than many others. My ‘back of a cigarette packet’ calculations suggest their bus service PVR from omorrow will be reducing from 17 down to 9 (although I don’t know exactly how their duties work(ed) so might not be an exact match). A few of them look set to only be out for a relatively small number of hours too.
Three routes - plus two morning journeys on a fourth otherwise Stagecoach route they operate - are being suspended (48, 81, X94, 500).
Two routes are dropping to roughly half frequency by taking a vehicle out of each (01, 441).
Eight routes are having restricted operating hours - seven morning to just after lunchtime, and one peak hours only (437, 438, 462, 463, 566, 567, P1, W1).
Only one is seeing no change - the 446. This is a route that they seem (to an outsider) have really upped patronage on in the few years since they took it over from Abellio. It’s the most frequent route serving the large St Peter’s Hospital so understandably it appears they’ve made it their priority to keep running as normal for as long as they can. A lot of staff may also be using it at the moment due to ongoing car park works at the hospital reducing parking capacity.
The cuts will obviously impact people, but they’ve seemingly ensured the elderly/disabled can still access facilities from many locations, and at least people can plan ahead rather than expect a bus that may not be running due to the operator not leaving enough contingency for short notice staff absence.
Stagecoach have so far announced no changes to their Hants/Surrey network which seems rather wishful thinking to me!!

Grant Shapps has moved to protect the rail industry and has also put in measures to help package holiday operators (they will no longer have to refund cancelled holidays but can offer credit towards a future holiday). Yet buses, which are a lifeline to so many more people, still wait in vain for Government help.

Sorry to hear about this, used their services and collection of oddball minibuses many a time when I lived in Halifax. Calling them a bus company might be stretching it a bit as most were I think under 16 seaters to get around DDA requirements.

Stotts Coaches suspending operation until further notice from Saturday They haven't ceased trading altogether - They are just stopping services whilst the COVID-19 issue is about. Their facebook says its a joint decision with West Yorkshire authorities. Wouldn't be surprised to see some more operators outside London temporarily cease operating their routes until this is over.

Seems I was correct as Pilkingtons of Accrington have also announced a temporary withdrawal of services until this is over and patronage increases again - Reason being to protect staff and the business.

Pilkington haven’t suspended all routes. Their Clitheroe area council contracted routes 4, 15, 64, 65, 66 and 67 are still running to a Saturday timetable.

Xelabus, based in Eastleigh near Southampton, are suspending all of their services. Not permanently though, I believe it’s only temporary due to COVID-19
