There seems to be a very strange reluctance to try any other manufactures vehicles.
However whatever is thought of the streetdecks B&H appear to be happy with them.
When I use them to and from Eastbourne they do get up he hills so they are doing their job.
Unless anyone knows different ....................... I've not used them but I rather suspect B&H are enjoying the fuel consumption saving compared to the former Scanias. I believe Streetdecks are supposed to be light on fuel. They seem to be a type that parts of Go Ahead are now buying in some numbers. A whole load have turned up for the Go North East 21 service displacing the Volvo B5 hybrids to other services. Interestingly Volvo B5TLs were bought for the X9/X10 express routes between Newcastle and Teesside so there is not an absolute tie to Wrightbus chassis vehicles.

That's the first favourable comment I've heard from someone about the Streetdecks and the hills - certainly everyone else including myself who have used the service has experienced much different where the Streetdecks are woeful at climbing the hills. They may get up their but the engines are clearly underpowered - you only have to listen to the buses going up the hills to hear this - and I'd be shocked if it's not putting considerable strain onto the engines. It's a shame we've not got a Brighton & Hove's driver's perspective about them.

Yes they do get up the hills, albeit slowly, so they do the job but previously anything other than a Scania was very rare on the 12 because they were too slow up the hills. I suspect B&H have got a good deal on these buses and they are obviously more fuel efficient than Scania's but with that comes a loss of power.

As you say they do get up the hills.

Firstly, I never discredited what you said to be fact or fiction - I merely stated that your comments were the first favourable ones I’ve heard about the buses. Also, what I actually said was that they don’t have the power to climb the hills effectively which is true - you only need to hear them as they go up the hills to know this and over time, it puts considerable strain onto the engines.

It appears that Dundee have been awarded 12 hydrogen buses under JIVE2 for delivery in 2019 (per Scottish website) Cannot find any details of quantity, but Brighton and Hove buses are listed in the JIVE2 partners, so looks like they are also getting a batch of Hydrogen buses, (presumably in 2019 or early 2020). Best ever bus route in Brighton is the 27 from Westdene Park & Ride to Saltdean
WHY? It is very scenic and the OmniCity DDs (which are sadly going soon) have fantastic branding!

The 27 is good but it doesn't beat the 77 which runs between Brighton Pier and Devil's d**e. The 77 traverses some hilly and very narrow roads, you're also guaranteed some breathtaking views. Last August I used the 77 and there was some variety regarding bus types on the route, IIRC there were Gemini 2s, Omnicitys and Omnidekkas. I used the former towards Devil's d**e and the latrer back to Brighton Pier, although I was hoping an Omnicity would pop up. Nevertheless the Omnidekka in particular was being thrashed and breezed up the hilly roads, despite its firm ride. There are also two coastal routes, the 12 (and its variants) to Eastbourne and the 700 to Portsmouth. I've never experienced the latter, though it is presumably scenic along the coast to and from Portsmouth. Apparently the 700 runs in sections now as a through journey would take a long time.

At least the vehicles have high back seats.

700 is not Brighton & Hove, it is Stagecoach. But I agree, even though I haven't done the whole route yet it does seem to go through a lot of resedential reas.

Thanks for sharing the picture. It’ll be nice to see these in service, be interesting to see how reliable the geofencing and batteries are to keep the engine off in the Ultra Low Emission Zone.
The 5 year me looks at this livery and goes ‘bleurgh’ though. 48 year old me understands the need to trumpet their Green credentials, especially with the Green Party having a bit more sway than usual in the city, but wishes they could have done something a bit more classy based around their normal B&H livery.
