Hi everyone,
Has anyone heard the new Central Line train announcements. (Paraphased) "This is White Chity, alight here for the hammersmith and circle lines and westfields"
"This is Stratford, please mind the gap between the train and the platform change here for the Jubilee, DLR, London overground, TFL Rail and National rail services"
It is very detailed!
I heard this on one train yesterday. However, today I did not hear it on the train I boarded. It sounded slightly like Emma Clarke, but I thought she was let go. I do hope she was/ is asked to do future announcements.

I must keep an ear out for them, The announcements were very outdated so I'm glad to hear that they've been replaced.

I must keep an ear out for them, The announcements were very outdated so I'm glad to hear that they've been replaced. I have heard them briefly - I don't think the whole lot have been redone, from what I could gather the Emma Clarke version was largely used but certain interchanges re-recorded (Liverpool Street and Stratford were the two I heard). The outdated bit makes me chuckle , when the Emma Clarke version was recorded in 2002/2003 the original Janet Mayo version was VERY outdated indeed. There were references to 'Network South East' services at NR interchanges (including Bank as the Waterloo & City was BR run at the time), there was no Jubilee line at Stratford, it was possible to get places as North Weald and Ongar announced, and going back to the NR bit, longer distance services were announced as 'Intercity' services (as Liverpool Street, I'm pretty certain that was along the lines of "This is Liverpool Street. Change for Circle, Hammersmith & City, Metropolitan lines, Network South East, and Intercity services").......that one by the early 2000's was really outdated EDIT: Despite a lot of people thinking the original 1992 voice was someone called Sonia - it was definitely Janet Mayo, have watched clips of her on BBC East Midlands Today and it's a shame she wasn't used for more DVAs really, I think the original Central line DVA was well up there, and one solitary car of 1992 stock - 91223 - soldiered on with it's original DVA until about 2007. Was quite surprised really as I thought it would have updated as a whole train, but there we are....

At DLR our Stratford announcement has had an Emma Clarke addition to mention London Overground and Tfl rail Without going toooo much off topic, the DLR announcements took me a few trips to get used to! At first they didn't strike me as very 'tube like', more akin to a house wife type person who had been drafted in to do some announcements! Becoming an every day traveller on the Woolwich line got me used to it quick enough though and in the end I didn't think it was a bad DVA Some PSAs don't give her much of a chance though, doing a lot of it themselves on the PA! Some are very good and some are quite odd, the chap I remember the most was on late trips to Woolwich, older guy with grey hair and glasses who spoke very slowly and in a spooky (!) type voice. Sure he meant well though, but hearing "ladies and gentlemen......boys and girls....." in a slow voice at 00:30 coming into Woolwich had a bit of an eerie feel to it

PSAs still make announcements at interchanges and terminals- when I worked trains full time I used to cut out the automatic announcements to stop everything being repeated again.

haha I know that guy very well, he's retired now. Glad you saw the humour , that's the thing with forums - you could be describing someone who is a mate or someone or at least someone they get along with (spooky voices ) but glad you see what I mean If anyone is wondering about Janet Mayo (!) some good recordings on this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5uWUZrmvVc, Bond Street is at 01:44 with the rather delicate way she describes 'Jubilee line' and Tottenham Court Road is at 04:31 with the rather down to earth pronunciation of TCR station itself. I really rate this DVA, especially the rather prim and proper way that "This train terminates at....." is voiced For the Bank NSE announcement, found that on a BVE clip but you have to listen REALLY carefully for it at 33:43 www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-UEvngqMLMOne I was impressed with was the final DVA the C69/77 stock had - it was a bit like the Janet Mayo voice so a bit of retro styling in the last years of that stock! It was recorded in 2009 for the extended Circle service. The worst ones I have heard were the original C69/77 stock 'VERA' announcements which were very slow and badly worded. Can't find a recording of that one though, admittedly though Emma Clarke has done loads, I'm not a huge fan (ditto the Julie Berry Picc line announcements, which I find odd on a tube train), preferring Janet Mayo and Sarah Parnell. Funny how you notice these things (and remember who did them)

it's an Emma, might be Hignet actually. Emma Hignett is the voice of the buses and will be the voice of the Elizabeth Line.

I heard it on my train at Bank and Stratford on the way home today, it's certainly Sarah Parnell who's done the additions but it's still Emma Clarke doing the rest of the announcements. They seem to have recorded them in a way the voices sound similar but a difference can certainly be heard. It does sound pretty unprofessional however it certainly gets the job done.

A bit off topic, but a rare destination that I have not seen in about 12 years until late last night. "This is a central line to South Woodford." Yes, saw that a while back (when I was at Stratford) when a signal failure in the Woodford area meant that trains were detraining at South Woodford, and going ‘the back way’ into Woodford 21 Road (a siding with two ends, normally used by the Hainault - Chigwell - Woodford reversing trains). Then presumably either reversing via 21 Road or the stabling sidings. It certainly got my attention too, I hadn’t seen it on the front of the train before then! Managed to see ‘Holborn’ on the front of a train (to reverse at British Museum) and managed to see ‘Tottenham Court Road’ too. I would have to check but I don’t think British Museum is used anymore so those are a couple of ‘lost’ destinations now...... Central is a more interesting line than most for destination displays, some that might be seen as more ‘odd’ like Ruislip Gardens, Debden, Newbury Park, North Acton are in the timetable on a very regular basis each day. Stuff like Marble Arch and Liverpool Street are common on engineering works. Still never managed to catch a ‘Queensway’ or ‘Bethnal Green’ though..........
