Reading Buses is withdrawing Green Line 702 temporarily from Monday 25th January. Green Line 703 will continue to operate. Also withdrawn temporarily will be Winnersh Triangle Park & Ride, the lion 4/X4 stops nearby on Reading Road. From Monday 1st February ruby 10, Greenwave 50 and Mereoak Park & Ride will operate to Saturday timetables on Monday to Friday. Leopard routes 3, 8 and 9 will have revised timetables from this date due to a reduced level of support from Wokingham Borough Council. Just to clarify: Most Monday-Friday Mereoak Park & Ride journeys will also call at Reading International Business Park, the exceptions will be morning peak departures from Mereoak, evening peak journeys from Central Seading, and journeys which operate via Tesco Depot. Mereoak Park & Ride will not operate on Sundays. Changes to the leopard route 3, 8 and 9 timetables are deferred to 8th February.

Courtney Buses (which is now Reading Buses-owned of course) changed most of its routes to Saturday timetables on Mondays to Fridays from 11th January. Exceptions are route 53 (Bracknell-Wexham Park Hospital) which operates a normal weekday service, and Wokingham routes 121, 122/123, 124, 125/A/B and 128 which operate to modified timetables on weekdays. Routes 7, 171/172 and 194 have same extra early morning journeys on weekdays. Routes 299 and 598 which only operate twice a week continue on their normal days.
From 13th February route 162/162A (Bracknell-Ascot) will be withdrawn as Bracknell Forest Council will no longer fund the route due to low usage, route 299 will be modified to provide an alternative service to Winkfield and Priestwood and Green Line 703 will continue to provide a service to North Ascot. Funding cuts will also see Bracknell local routes 108, 150 and 158 withdrawn after 21.00, but a single circular journey numbered N1 will depart Bracknell Bus Station at 23.00 on Mondays to Saturdays covering most of these routes.

Following discussions with Wokingham Borough Council to reduce the level of financial support, whilst still providing sufficient capacity for essential travel, the following timetable changes will be made from Monday 8th February: Leopard 3 - Monday-Saturday daytime frequency between Reading and Arborfield Green will be reduced from every 20 to every 30 minutes. An hourly service will continue to operate to and from Wokingham. The new timetable also includes school route 903 journeys which are reintroduced for students needing to travel to and from Bohunt School, these are "closed" journeys for students only. Leopard X3 - reduced from three to two journeys each way, with timings revised. From Reading Station at 07.05/08.15, from Shinfield Park at 16.15/17.50 Tiger 7 - the two late-evening journeys that operate between Reading and Riseley on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights will be suspended until further notice as they are currently little used. All other journeys are unchanged and the route continues to operate to the School Holiday timetable. Leopard 8/9 - each route will be revised to run hourly, giving a combined 30-minute service between Reading and Spencers Wood. www.reading-buses.co.uk/changes-leopard-and-tiger-7

Reading Buses at least is preparing for the full return of schools on Monday 8th March. They anticipate that the school routes 81-93 will all return, as will the student-only journeys numbered in the 900 series. On other routes, where there are schoolday-only journeys these are expected to operate in place of school holiday journeys. www.reading-buses.co.uk/school-buses-returning-mon-8-mar

The latest Notices & Proceedings publication shows the registrations for routes 10/10A/10S (Heathrow T5 to Slough/Dedworth) and 459 (Heathrow T5 to Iver) are cancelled from 4th April. Will be interesting to see if anything is registered in their place by anyone, or if it’s a case of Heathrow withdrawing bus funding means these routes just aren’t sustainable.

Reading Buses is anticipating that it will restore services in two phases as restrictions are eased.
The first uplift will be on Monday 8th March, when all school term services will be restored, as will the duplicates that were in place to allow for social distancing. Green Line 702 and Winnersh Triangle Park & Ride will remain suspended as these do not carry any significant schools traffic; ruby 10, Greenwave 50 and Mereoak Park & Ride 600 will remain on their Saturday timetables for the same reason. Claret Spritzer 21a will remain suspended until Reading University students return. Vodafone services and National Express route 925 will remain suspended until required again.
The second uplift is expected to occur on Monday 12th April if non-essential retail and leisure is allowed to reopen. From this date most services will be restored to full timetables, with the exception of Vodafone and National Express which will remain suspended until they are required. It is also anticipated the the Leopard routes (3/8/9) will remain on their reduced timetables as demand has been disappointing and the routes may need to be restructured going forward.

www.courtneybuses.com/cancellation-routes-10-459Cancellation of Routes 10/10A/10S & 459 from Sun 4th AprilWe regret that from Sunday 4th April 2021, routes 10/10A/10S and 459 will be withdrawn. Financial support for these routes has mainly come from Heathrow Airport Ltd, and under the current economic conditions, they withdrew their funding for bus routes into the airport from January. As a result, we are unable to sustain these routes any longer. Late evening Monday to Saturday journeys on route 2 (from Slough at 1935, 2110 and 2250) and all Sunday journeys will also be withdrawn from Saturday 10th April 2021. Whilst this is disappointing news for us all, we are hopeful that once the airport economy recovers sufficiently well, such services can be reinstated with their support.

Knew the 459 wouldn't last, only ever seen 1 person use the route, and that was my GF! Was a good attempt at trying something new though

Confirmation that Scanias 706, 708 and 709 will be repainted into a new version of the Greenwave Livery to convert route 50 to double-deck. They will be joined on weekdays by 707 which will remain in generic livery, allowing its use on other routes at weekends.
706, 708 and 709 will each highlight one feature of the service:
- Fast and direct (uses A33 bus priority) - Charge into town - USB charging - Natural gas powered - low carbon

Reading Buses is making further changes from Monday 12th April and will increase service levels. Winnersh Triangle Park & Ride and Green Line 702 will be reinstated, with a full level of service. Ruby 10, Greenwave 50 and Mereoak Park & Ride 600 will revert to their normal Monday-Friday timetables. Also the leopard routes 3, 8 and 9 will revert to their previous full service levels, despite earlier reports that these might continue on lower frequencies as new housing developments south of Reading have been delayed. The Thursday/Friday/Saturday late evening journeys on route 7 between Reading and Riseley will also be restored. www.reading-buses.co.uk/increased-service-12-aprilFrom Monday 5th April Courtney Buses services are being operated under the Thames Valley Buses name, although some buses will continue to carry Courtney Buses fleetnames until they are repainted. Since Sunday 28th March TVB has been providing one evening journey and an hourly Sunday service over First Berkshire route 12 between Slough and Burnham, Priory Estate; these journeys are supported by Slough Borough Council. As noted previously, Heathrow routes 10/10A and 459 were withdrawn without replacement after 4th April following withdrawal of funding from the Airport.

Reading Buses has added an extra students-only afternoon journey for pupils of Reading School from 10th May. Numbered 908, it departs Royal Berkshire Hospital (South Wing) at 15.35 for Reading Station and frees up capacity on other leopard routes from the Hospital for other passengers.

Has anything been said anywhere about whether the National Express 925 is likely to make a return? Judging by the purple Heathrow branding carried by I think two(?) of the three Levantes, I'm guessing Heathrow possibly provided some funding towards it, but I understand they've stopped funding bus/coach services at the moment? I can see no mention of it on NX's website where they list dates of returning services, and First have re-routed their Guildford RailAir to run via Woking now.

On a visit to Reading town centre this week, there seemed to be a lot (by Reading standards) of 'odd workings', including two or three Vodafone (plain red) buses on Reading urban routes, including a d/d on the 17.
The Vodafone buses have been at Reading for some time, partly to provide additional school workings (mostly 'school pupils only' routes) for some time, and the single deckers did have a brief spell on the 500 (Winnersh Triangle park and ride) between lockdowns.
From its latest reinstatement, the 500 has been former Greenwave single deckers repainted for the route, the previous route 500 buses have been repainted orange for the 19 Earley / Woodley services, cascading the former 'little orange' midis to Thames Valley.
I have not seen any 'Royal Blue 33' buses on the road in my last few visits to Reading - I think they may still be de-licensed.
