[ .... ] The changes come into effect on Monday 19th February. [ .... ] [Route] 19 is withdrawn, replaced as far as Lower Earley ASDA by the extended 22. There may well be changes to the 9 too as this currently interworks with the 19, although none have been publicised so far. As I expected, the 9 will change again from Monday 19th February. It will no longer serve Whiteknights or Wilderness Road/Elm Lane. Instead buses will operate in both directions via Christchurch Green, Shinfield Road, Cressingham Road, Northumberland Avenue, then in a one-way loop via Hartland Road, Whitley Wood Land and Northumberland Avenue, then as outward. Two morning and three evening Monday-Friday peak journeys will divert at Whitley Wood Lane/Northumberland Avenue to and from Mereoak Park and Ride, operating via Whitley Wood Lane, Basingstoke Road and the A33 and serving stops at Engineer's Court, Spencer Road and Hartley Court Turn. Buses will operate hourly on Mondays to Saturdays between 06.00 and 20.00. There are also timetable changes to route 11 (Coley Park) from 19th February.

Over the next few days, one of the Reading Buses Wright Streetdecks (901-906) normally used on orange routes 13/14 will be trialled on Green Line 702. Today (24th January) 904 is doing the honours.

Reading Buses has also announced some changes to its Kennections services in and around Newbury from Monday 19th February.
The jetred service is being drastically reduced - route 101 is withdrawn, whilst the 102 is reduced to off-peak Mondays to Fridays only. Competition is being given as the reason (Weavaway also operates routes 1a and 1c over pretty much the same routes) and the two jetred Scanias have already transferred to the Thames Valley fleet at Slough to operate route 2 (Slough-Dedworth).
On the plus side, Kennections gains the West Berkshire Council contract for route 9 (Newbury - Racecourse), which operates roughly hourly Monday to Saturday daytimes.
There are also changes to route 2 (Newbury - Wash Common) with off-peak journeys extended to Greenham Tesco, and timetable changes only on routes 3, 4, 6 and 8.

I am sure we have a couple of informed people who can answer this question. Looking at the ticket information for route 702 there is an adult day ticket for £16 which is stated as covering the 702, the Reading Buses network and First Berkshire network. I think I can be sure about what is left of First Berkshire but the question remains as to what the "Reading buses network" actually is. Is it the town network or does it include every route Reading Buses as a company operate regardless of the branding so, for example, the Jet Black to Newbury, the Kennections routes and the routes to / from Bracknell??
Reading Buses are normally pretty good with their info but they do segment their website and services into multiple different pages and there are different fare zones hence by confusion and question.

Inside London + First Berkshire and all Reading Buses services (every single service they operate including Thames Valley Buses and Newbury Kennections) then the day ticket is £16./£8 for Children under 15 This ticket can be bought anywhere along the route, but not on First Berkshire services to my knowledge Outside London (from Langley) includes all Reading Buses services (as above) but not First Berkshire then the day ticket is £7/£4 for young people aged 18 and under. No passes issued by Courtney Buses are valid on Reading Buses.

Slight correction to the above ticketing 'rules'
The Green Line day and SimplyNetwork tickets are not valid on the 'Kennections' services radiating out of Newbury, they are however valid on the JetBlack 1 and JetRed services. If you would like to travel on the Kennections services then you need to purchase the West Berkshire Connect ticket.

Just announced - Reading Buses is to take over the Reading - Hartley Wintney section of Stagecoach South route 7 from Monday 16th April. Buses will continue directly to Fleet for rail connections. www.reading-buses.co.uk/articles/route-7-to-fleet/This complements the existing evening and Sunday service on route 7 between Reading and Riseley, which is already operated by Reading Buses under contract to Wokingham Borough Council. Simply Network day and period tickets will be available on the section between Three Mile Cross and Fleet, although existing Stagecoach-issued tickets will continue to be accepted by Reading Buses until they expire. Stagecoach South will continue to operate between Hartley Wintney and Aldershot, and will continue to provide the service through the Elvetham Heath estate in Fleet. The new timetables will be co-ordinated to provide connections at Hartley Wintney, and through tickets will be available. No employees are transferring, but Reading Buses will be acquiring a couple of vehicles from Stagecoach South.

I can't imagine they'd last too long in the Reading fleet!

"Berry" good -
Reading Buses has revealed the first of the refurbished Enviro400s to be used on Caversham routes 23/24 - it appears to be no. 220, and has appeared in a two-tone purple livery (but distinctly different shades to those used on the purple 17 buses). The routes are being revised from Monday 19th February, when they will become circulars once again, and will be relaunched as the "berry" routes in the near future.

I have it on good authority that routes 25 and 27/29 will retain "pink" branding for now. The 22 is being rebranded "red" from next Monday when it is extended to Lower Earley. Having developed over the years into a mini-network of pink routes, the Caversham routes are once again being split into different colours.

Reading Buses seems to be doing OK in the snow so far, as it hasn't affected areas to the West of London so badly. All routes are running, with the main problem being heavy traffic.

Snow update, Thursday 1st March: Reading Buses seems to be getting everything through this morning. The biggest headache appears to have been schools announcing they were not opening - when the school buses were already en-route. A couple of journeys on regular routes have had to be cancelled so the buses can take the students home again!

Snow review, Saturday 3rd March: compared with some parts of the UK Reading got off pretty lightly. Reading Buses managed to run most of its services throughout across all its operations, with just a few diversions and curtailments necessary - the biggest headache was delays caused by the road conditions. This morning everything is operating full route, and conditions are set to improve with temperatures rising and the current Yellow Warning of ice only in force until 11.00.

I've got a trip to Reading planned for a few weeks time - anyone got ideas on what routes I should be looking at to do? I've a few in mind already particularly for certain types of vehicles.

I've got a trip to Reading planned for a few weeks time - anyone got ideas on what routes I should be looking at to do? I've a few in mind already particularly for certain types of vehicles. 42/42a for the new new Mellor Strata minibus- a fantastic little bus with a few surprises 17- The new Scania E400 Cities 21a- Claret Spritzer Scania Omnidekkas 702- Scania Omnilink 13.5m tri axles 400- Euro 6 6l Cummins Enviro 200's Route 3b- very fast with the Scania Gas Enviro 300's Keep an eye out on RVF as sometimes you can get some of the football DAF DB250's escape onto regular work. and I repost the changes here to save room. Through Passenger Transport/Facebook summed up in brief notes Changes to Green Line/Thames Valley routes from 2nd May Thames Valley Buses Route 2 withdrawn due to competition. Green Line 702 withdrawn between Legoland and Bracknell outside peak times. New Green Line 703 between Heathrow Terminal 5 and Bracknell. I will let the official announcement on Monday/Tuesday elaborate on these points.
