I don't think this has been mentioned on here, but I've seen elsewhere a new announcement will be played from the 12th of January along the lines of "Please hold on the bus is about to move". This is expected to reduce the amount of injuries from buses moving. The announcement will play 5 seconds after the route information has been announced.

Will the driver also be able to activate the message manually? (e.g. when the bus is ready to move after a long time stationary because of the level crossing)

Hopefully the programmers will set it so that it isn't played if the driver has played "this bus will wait a short while to even out the service". Not much point telling people to hold on if the bus is being regulated for another 3 minutes.

TFL is becoming a laughing stock. Sorry, this announcement will be just as effective as the 'please move down inside the bus' announcement in that people don't listen.

If it's played everytime after route announcement, then heavens save us all, headaches and annoyance to everybody. Why is Health & Safety so OTT here???

Reminds me of the Midland Metro trams: "Please hold tight, this tram is about to depart!" at every stop

If it's played everytime after route announcement, then heavens save us all, headaches and annoyance to everybody. Why is Health & Safety so OTT here??? Simple answer - Mayoral policy to reduce accidents to zero. A completely ridiculous target IMO given bus companies and TfL cannot control risks created by other drivers, pedestrians or highway authorities / those bordering the highway. Therefore there will be a completely over the top pressure on those things they can control such as vehicle design, bus speeds etc. We will end up with every bus having a man with a red flag and loudhailer walking in front of them at this rate. All the buses will be empty because it will be faster to walk or people will just use cars or taxis instead. Another wrong headed policy initiative driven by gobby people on social media who have "hi-jacked" certain politicians to their cause.

I'm not sure you can blame the mayor for everything, there has been a rather over the top H&S culture in this country for quite some time now and this just sounds like another example of it.

I suggest you check some recent TfL papers about the Accident Reduction Plan that the Mayor has required TfL to implement. Also check out TfL's response to the London Assembly Transport Cttee report on Bus Safety. The Mayor actually put his name to that response. Therefore this is NOTHING to do with "over the top H&S culture in this country". I have previously posted about all of these papers and letters on this forum. The Mayor is more than happy to have his name associated with these initiatives so I am not "blaming" him for anything. Sheesh!

Well I'll take your word for that but you do seem to blame the mayor, or indeed his predecessor, for just about everything under the sun. I mean what do you expect Mr Khan to say, let's strive to get accidents down to single figures? Of course not, zero accidents has to be the aim just as it would be in any other walk of life. I find these repetitive safety announcements as irritating as everybody else does but such is the world in which we live and the situation isn't helped by the ever increasing number of fraudulent claims.

I wonder if popping the PA on when one stops will prevent the new automated announcement? I hope there’s some way to stop it since it’s us drivers that will be moaned at by passengers hearing it for the umpteenth time 🙄

On Southeastern stations, we have the glorious announcements made to stand back away from edge of platforms to avoid turbulence.
