You have to be very careful with banner headlines like that. Reading the article reveals a picture that is much more complex (as is to be expected). Obviously we only have the newspaper's interpretation / spin on what they got in their FOI request. There do appear to be some very serious / borderline disturbing incidents where people were killed or seriously injured. However I would point out that New York traffic is some of the most manic I've ever seen. The other significant factor is that NYC Transit buses are typically very long for single deckers. The grid pattern in much of the five boroughs will make turns at junctions something of a feat to achieve in a long rigid heavyweight single decker. No midibuses or lightweight Darts out there. The other factor with New York's transport system is that its funding is insane, its cost base is out of control and their politics are so poisonous / accountability so fractured that it makes London's issues look like a stroll in the park with Khan and Grayling holding hands and skipping through the daisies. I pity anyone who tries to make New York's transport better - it must be the job from hell. And yes a former LUL man, Andy Byford, is now heading up the Subway. He will need more than all the luck in the world to achieve success in that job.
