3 of us, aged 10 travelled by bus to Euston, train to Manchester Piccadilly, walked to Oxford Road, train to Bolton to see steam locos, then returned. Could happen in mid 1960s, but unlikely today.

When I was 13 used buses and trains unaccompanied, but must have paid cash No one had a bank card at 13, (and when you did get one, were just for cashpoint machines) i was out on Red Rovers all day (well, 'til teatime) when I was 11 or 12. I was close enough to Barnet to vary it by getting a Green Rover to go and catch RMLs on the 306,311 and 347.
