Plymouth CityBus has removed a number of Monday-Friday journeys from the timetable on a temporary basis, with immediate effect from today (Thursday 9th September). The cancellations are to contain the ongoing staff shortage, which has been caused by absences and exacerbated by delays at the DVLA in issuing documentation allowing drivers to train. CityBus does note that it has 40 trainees to progress through the system so it expects the cancellations to be temporary. Routes affected are 5/5A, 8/9. 16, 21/21A, 27, 28/28A, 40, 42, 42A, 42C, 43, 50 and 61. Apart from routes 21/21A and 42A/42C no late evening journeys after 19.00 are affected. A full list of the journeys cancelled is on the Plymouth CityBus website. www.plymouthbus.co.uk/changes-bus-servicesThe ending of seasonal journeys on Go Cornwall Bus route 72 has also been brought forward to today. The core Plymouth-Looe-Polperro service will continue to run normally but the additional seasonal journeys between Seaton and Polperro no longer operate, nor does the evening service after 20.00 between Polperro and Tregoad Holiday Park.

Don't blame them for voting for Strike action tbh, Stagecoach pay is terrible compared to rest of industry.

Just back from a holiday in South Devon. Meant to a daily list of cancelled bus services for each route on the Stagecoach website, though this is not always updated in time for each morning’s service.
In addition other unadvertised cancellations were causing gaps in service on routes 88 Totnes to Newton Abbott and 3 Kingsbridge to Plymouth. Not great on hourly routes.

You can add rising prices to the list too! Largely down to the pandemic and it seems a lot of bus drivers have left the industry and got more remunerative work elsewhere, certainly more sociable hours, following the boom in home deliveries.

Sociable hours? That made me laugh! I see stressed out drivers still doing drops 8pm or 9pm at night. I dread to think of the environmental impact on all these vans dropping goods to people sat at home.

Stagecoach to merge or be taken over by National Express according to The Independent this morning. Not just reported by the Independent but by multiple sources, so far though, I believe it’s just discussions and nothing has actually been done

Falcon has gone to a reduced temporary timetable as of today (26th September), roughly 2-hourly frequency but still 24-hours. This will apply until more drivers have been trained.
Also the open-top 222 (Teignmouth-Dawlish Warren) has been withdrawn for the Winter and the 95 (Exmouth-Sandy Bay) is reduced to hourly.
Next weekend (2nd October) sees the 122 withdrawn between Babbacombe Downs and Paignton, a limited service will continue to operate between Paignton Bus Station and Devon Bay Holiday Park until 13th November.
Also from Sunday 3rd October route T in Exeter (Topsham) will no longer operate on a Sunday but the Digby circulars I and J which cover most of the route will increase to every 30 minutes. Route 57 provides an alternative service to Topsham.

Tally Ho's ADL Enviro200 YX16 OFD now carries route branding on its cove panel for the 164 Salcombe - Kingsbridge - Totnes, complete with National Rail logo. It also carries a window transfer "Great Western Railway working in partnership", recognising the rail operator's funding support for the service which connects with main line trains at Totnes Station. Photos (not mine): flic.kr/p/2muiFVqflic.kr/p/2mu9Q8sADDENDUM: YX16 OFC also carries the same branding (again not my photo): flic.kr/p/2mtEJ6m

Stagecoach change to service 1 in Plymouth from end of October to divert into George Park and Ride site. This with 101 provides 8 buses an hour from George to Derriford and City Centre, is this an attempt to push citybus out of the site after PCB diverted 42 onto George site? Not sure if any other changes to services in Plymouth are imminent?

I think they could make 200 service a cross city one from Coypool to Milehouse. If they withdrew 101 they would need to serve milehouse Park and ride somehow? Perhaps then cut 101 to 2 an hour, every 30 mins but run same route as 1 from George Junction, Derriford, Mutley, Railway station to city. This would maintain a service at Milehouse (200) and increase service to 6 an hour (every 10 mins) George and Derriford to Mutley and City. TIcket prices on 1 and 101 would need to be aligned though which would be much easier as running the same route!
