Arriva are taking on the 479. Interesting, especially given all the talk of Arriva supposedly pulling out of the area! Taking on the 479 is a much better use of their resources than running empty buses round Guildford in a pointless attempt to compete with Safeguard.

Arriva will be operating it from today (Sat 16th March), to the same timetable. Unclear if this is commercial or an emergency Surrey CC contract.

Arriva will be operating it from today (Sat 16th March), to the same timetable. Unclear if this is commercial or an emergency Surrey CC contract. Arriva Surrey have decided not to advertise it, nothing in news section, or timetables on their website www.arrivabus.co.uk/kent-and-surrey/places/guildford/Presumably any potential Arriva users are supposed to guess the bus times Luckily Surrey County Council has a bus timetable available www.surreycc.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0008/7892/479-Arriva-160319-1.pdfHalf hourly Epsom - Bookham, with alternate buses continuing hourly to Guildford No evening service Sunday service operated by Stagecoach An oddity is the timetable header includes Little Bookham, but there are no times for it (Preston Cross is nearest) So not going to be the easiest service to operate from Guildford As an example first 2 buses from Epsom, need light runs from the garage, and last 4 runs arriving at Epsom appear to run light back to Guildford. A set of fairly long runs, although the 70mph A3 could be used (not sure what speed the buses can maintain)

The timetable is still weighted towards operation from the Epsom end as it is in fact unchanged from the Buses Excetera one, as confirmed by both the council website and Arriva on their social media channels. Being a short notice thing, I’d imagine it’ll be on their website soon (although I’ve never found their website to be particularly easy to navigate, and clicking ‘Where we Operate’ and selecting ‘Guildford’ just now brought up a list of routes that doesn’t even include their main 34/35!). Whether the timetable may get tweaked in the future or not I guess depends on the contract length. I know at least some of the emergency school ones run just up to the Easter holidays, so one assumes that may be the case for all of those, and so possibly the 479 one is also a short term solution to get the route back running while it’s longer term future is decided?

Yes clearly not a timetable for Guildford based buses. Can't see it lasting very long in current form, but would take time to register a proper service.
I do wonder how many of the routes users would use social media, so might struggle to be publicised.

In view of all that's stated above, I'd be very surprised to find that Surrey CC hadn't made some financial commitment towards Arriva working the 479, but I'd be even more surprised if it was on the basis of a fully tendered service. It could be one of those de minimus arrangements which neither side are too enthusiastic to trumpet the details of, but is satisfactory to both parties (for the moment.)

I did see a Buses Etc vehicle just last month in Guildford, I think an elderly Caetano.
As Stagecoach run route 715 I thought they'd be more interested in this route than Arriva.
There will still be independents Compass Bus, Safeguard and White Bus in the area, and maybe Falcon Buses.

Yeah, probably some of the other buses are now under the coach operations (That reminds me,it means I might get a E200 from my school to Kensington tomorrow lol)
