66% opposed? That's fairly high... The proposal to curtail route 73 was opposed by 73% of respondents (an amazing coincidence) but still went ahead. The reality, of course, is that whilst Tf has a statutory duty to consult there is no obligation to heed the views of those who take part in the consultation. It could be argued that those who agree with the plan are unlikely to make their views known.

I wonder what the new PVR of the extended 88 will be? Currently 23. Maybe 26 or 27? Alao, it will be interesting what route it swaps with for conventional hybrid buses. Everyone says 87 is the most likely candidate but could another route like the 188 be chosen instead?

Yes it has, TfL even said in their consultation the LTs would be removed!

Was it always in the consultation that the 88 would be re-routed via the current C2 between Great Portland Street and Camden Town?

Has it been confirmed that the LTs will go? The consultation report mentions that some respondents have questioned whether they can negotiate the turn at PHF and others gave compliained that they are too hot or don't have enough seats. None of these points seem to be addressed which rather suggests that the vehicle type is still up for discussion.

The link from Mornington Crescent / Hampstead Rd to Gt Portland St / Portland Place / Oxford Circus is lost as a result of this change. One of the more retrograde aspects of this change if you ask me. Even in the dire days on the late 80s when routes were being cut LT still kept a 135 service over this link (when the 137 was split in two). London Buses M1136 135 Warren Street by plcd1, on Flickr

Mark LT’s failed a test on the C2 ages ago and the problem section was at Parliament Hill Fields and I don’t believe any work has been done there. Not only that but I’ve been around in a shorter vehicle that really struggled to negotiate the roundabout and had to reverse part way around - currently there is a 1m difference between a C2 Enviro 400 & a LT which is a big difference.

Didn’t think the proposal was toooooo bad, of course those in Mornington Crescent/Hamstead Road lose out. Adding Kentish Town to the mix (which is always ridden with traffic - as experienced by daily 134 rides) and even sometimes up the Highgate Road will not help reliability though. The C2 was a lot more useful when it went to Victoria. I hope they don’t swap the LTs with the 87, otherwise my boyfriend will be whining at me about how they’ve ruined the 87 and he won’t be able to take it anymore (not just bus enthusiasts who hate LTs! ) and I’ll pull out the ‘I don’t work for buses anymore’ excuse 66% opposed? That's fairly high... The opposition could have been even higher yet still the proposals would have gone through. London Buses gotta do what they gotta do under dire financial constraints. It’s not going to make many people happy. Thanks a bunch Sadiq

It was also a useful back-up for the 134 whenever that went FUBAR.

Indeed, and it also can be argued that loads of passengers who would be against the proposals didn't even know about the consultation and so did not respond.
In truth it was never going to matter, as the changes were always almost certainly going to go ahead.

Technically it was only advisory as we (so I am told) live in a parliamentary democracy.

To think they could have used the 159 to cover that link in conjunction with its cut back from Marble Arch to Oxford Circus, bearing in mind I'm not too fond of the 159 change in the first place.
