So... I’ve updated my cpc at my own cost. I have a clean pcv for 23 years and so much experience (not just driving) of tfl operations. The company I was working for has gone into liquidation so there is no point of contact. Stagecoach have said they won’t accept a personal reference by telephone email or letter it HAS to come from the company direct even though it’s not in business!! So basically no further forward. Do these companies actually want to employ anyone??? It's probably tick boxes and pie charts

I'm only guessing but maybe Stagecoach are over staffed after recent route losses?

It seems they don’t want experienced people 🤔so many ads either say trainee or new pass welcome. The industry is a mess.

Do these companies actually want to employ anyone??? Have you tried applying to other London operators as it seems that you are just applying for Stagecoach London and nothing else? You do have other London operators that you can apply for such as Arriva and Go-Ahead which both of them do have many garages that isn't too far from Stagecoach garages so they are good alternatives for you to consider.

Stagecoach are definitely not overstaffed judging by the hours I see the training buses out and about. Was on the road 8am on the 27th straight after Christmas! Regularly see them out and about as late as 8pm too.

I don't think any employer would take on staff without a reference buses or otherwise.

He's had a clean pcv licence for over 20 years, that's a reference in itself.

Erm yes but the point is that Stagecoach are insisting on getting the reference direct from the former employer - which is impossible because they've gone out of business. If everyone adopted that policy, that'd mean that a driver whose employer goes bust would never work again. Clearly there should be a way of accepting a reference directly from a former manager (for example) in these situations.

That’s so true. I was at arriva for many years and they have even agreed to give me a glowing reference even though it’s for stagecoach. I did all the things such as hello London in the zone and my BTEC. Even though it’s further I will go back to arriva. Stagecoach are a joke, There is no cost involved, license or cpc but that’s still not good enough. Personally I have found there recruitment department rude and unhelpful. I wonder how many other drivers they have missed out on?

A friend of mine went to Arriva on agency, getting more than most of the existing drivers.

Sooo.... after much time wasting I’ve got an interview with go ahead next week. The lady told me I’d be there all day! Blimey when I worked for arriva it was done in a few hours lol. Like most companies I’ve heard mixed reviews but I’m keeping an open mind. Watch this space!!
