Reviving an old thread -
Aldwych will be converted into a two-way road between Thursday 19th and Sunday 22nd August. Both Aldwych and Strand (between the two Aldwych arms) will need to close during this period so there will be extensive diversions and curtailments of bus routes in the area.
Strand (between Melbourne Place and Bridge Street) will reopen as a two-way cycle route during the afternoon of Sunday 22nd August.
The eastern section of Strand between Arundel Street and Melbourne Place, as well as Melbourne place itself, will be narrowed but will remain open for buses, allowing buses terminating at Aldwych to turn round. Other traffic will also be able to use Melbourne Place to exit Surrey Street and access Aldwych. Bus stops in Strand will be relocated to new locations around Aldwych.
The scheme will be completed in late 2022 when the pedestrian and cycle improvement works are completed.

Total chaos there on Friday! If this is another of Khan’s ideas, he should get on his own bike and just keep going...80 miles eastwards!

He only won 40% if vote thou. Pretty low for a winning candidate.
As for Aldwych I wonder what the curtailments will be. I guess there will be no stands for the duration of the works.

As an East Ender commuting to West End for work like me, the TfL journey planner's default option would be to cycle 1hr45min through the Central London traffic which sounds absolutely fun!
