I didn't know where to put this - would've dumped this in a games section, but this forum doesn't seem to have one!
We all know TfL's attempting to withdraw as much mileage from bus routes as they can. We're trying to fight it wherever we can - or just discussing how much we dislike it.
Let's play on the other side of the fence now. You, yes you reading this post, are TfL. Your task is to cut as much mileage from London's bus routes as you can - with the following rather generous caveats (which the real TfL don't always stick to):
1) In each post, you may withdraw a single bus route from a section of route/in its entirety and, if necessary, extend a different bus route or divert an existing one
2) You may also use a post to create a new stand space - so long as you don't knock down any trees while doing it.
2) If you extend, divert or curtail a bus route, you must ensure there is stand space for your extended/diverted/curtailed bus route
3) If you extend or divert a bus route, it can become as long as you like, so long as a driver can do a round trip without requiring a rest break
4) Your section of route may be as long as you like, but if you need to replace the withdrawn bus route by extending/diverting another you can only replace it with a single bus route (this route exists to stop you from withdrawing an entire route and replacing it with multiple little tweaks along the way)
5) All roads originally served by a bus must continue to be served by a bus
6) You can't cut the total frequency of buses on any road by more than 50% in each turn
(e.g. you can't withdraw the U1 between Ruislip and Ickenham and say it's OK, U10 covers it. You can, of course, halve the frequency of the U1 several times, then withdraw it...)
Each post of bus cuts adds to the series; for every bus route you withdraw you get a hundred points; adding a bus route loses you fifty points; if you add two bus routes in a row (without cutting one in between), you are fired from TfL and must go and work for Network Rail instead (you drop out of the game).
You also gain a point for every bus enthusiast you anger; you lose a point if any politician finds out you're cutting buses in their area before you get a chance to do it. (I'm only half joking about that last sentence)
Here's a first move:
I make a stand space for two buses on the north side of Glenthorne Road near Ravenscourt Park, between Studland Street and Lamington Street.
