Although ADL are well versed in ramping up production and switching assembly work between Scarborough and Falkirk to meet varying demand. Then there is Optare, and now Volvo is coming to market with its own electric models and there is also the new Equipmake Jewel e that Go-Ahead will be trialling. These will all be looking for orders.

Now this is news TO ME and may not be so to others.
I've just discovered from my BBP handbook that E40Ds 6893-7000 and 7500-41 are actually HYBRIDS like some of the Stagecoach 11xxx series are. These have been described as smart hybrids, yet they are not E40H. Buses magazine describes 7541 as the last new DIESEL bus for NXWM. CONFUSED dot com so I am verily.

It is the last vehicles they plan to buy you need to put diesel in.

I thought hybrids were diesel electric so perhaps these should be classified E40 DH. Anyway battery electric s or hydrogen powered buses are the future. I have heard some concerns about storing hydrogen tanks in bus depots. All fuel tanks are explosive I realise.

It appears that ADL E40H of the 5401-30 are being converted to diesel operation which may be a retrograde step. I have heard Go Ahead are converting some Volvo B5LH to B5TLs. I've heard some rumblings about the reliability of theArriva NW Volvo B5LH fleet as well. Are the hybrid diesel-electrics going the same way as the petrol-electrics of a century ago? Most new buses appear to be either battery only or hydrogen powered but garages would need to be adapted to use this type of power.

Hybrids are definitely on the way out, and it looks now like they were only ever destined to to an intermediate solution to reducing vehicle emissions. Batteries that are now reaching the end of their useful lives are often not being replaced, with the vehicles being converted to direct diesel operation. The future will be electric or hydrogen with the production of diesel buses expected to cease in the next few years - the batteries being produced now for all-electric vehicles are far superior to those used in the hybrids of ten years ago and even the early all-electric prototypes of just a few years ago. Also the batteries used in today's electric vehicles can be re-used in static battery farms when they age and no longer produce sufficient output to sustain all-day bus operation.

Coventry has ZEBRA funding and will have an all-electric bus fleet by 2025, that is where the majority of the 300 buses will be going.

A planned strike by drivers at NXWM that was due to commence tomorrow (Thursday 16th March) has been deferred after Management tabled a revised pay offer.
Strike action could still take place from Monday 20th March if a members' ballot rejects the new offer.

Strike action could still take place from Monday 20th March if a members' ballot rejects the new offer. The offer was rejected and an all-out strike commenced on Monday 20th March. Unite members voted 71% in favour of industrial action. However engineers at NXWM have settled on a pay deal. A very limited bus service is operating with a focus on major hospitals in the region.

If the order announced January was 300 buses, and now be revealed that ADL have 170 of them, who has the other 130 ?
