Doing the 110 a few weeks ago showed how much of a slog it is albeit there was some works and rugby traffic but it took over an hour and a half end to end. Anyway, it did get me thinking - why wasn’t a contra flow bus lane put on King Street in Hammersmith rather than a cycle lane as buses could avoid the traffic on Glenthorne Road Great idea and how many people even use that hotly contested cycle lane? Good question, but how would the contra bus lane go to the bus station?

Don't even get me started on that...

Great idea and how many people even use that hotly contested cycle lane? Good question, but how would the contra bus lane go to the bus station? There would have to be some minor adjustments to the junction at the end of King Street to allow a direct exit from a contra flow bus lane into the one way system so buses could serve the bus station but it really wouldn’t be any different to buses exiting from Beadon Road. It’s a good idea and I would improve it by making Beadon Road/Glenthorne Road two way and having King Street up to the junction with Studland Road bus only to improve bus speeds in the Hammersmith area.

Personally, I wish it had been done to coincide with the Lidl/Ikea opening as it would really also improve access there.

A contra flow would definitely improve speeds but King Street and Glenthorne Road typically aren't the biggest problem for the routes that go along it, Chiswick High Road is usually much worse. But obviously nothing can be done with that given the recent infrastructure put in.
