Ten routes in Croydon! Yes the 130/466 merger would seem highly likely and I suspect the 64/412/433 might be in for some changes. As for improvements I think the 289 could do with a modest increase to 5bph and the 468 should revert to its former frequency Mon-Fri peak hours and Sunday, seems to manage ok at other times though. I can't think of much else though. This is what the minutes of the Croydon Council public transport committee held on 20 June had to say: Muhammed Mashud (Transport for London) informed the Panel that the 2018 Bus Review was looking to integrate with the planned changes to the town centre alongside the arrival of Westfield, but that it also examined routes on a Borough wide basis. The Chair inquired as to if a timeline had been agreed for the review, and as to whether any specific capacity increases had been decided. The representative for TfL stated that while no specifics had yet been announced, the review aimed to increase capacity where there was demand for it in order to serve the whole of the town centre. The representative went on to discuss specific work that had been carried out on overcrowding on the 463 route, collaborating with a Ward Member and two local Schools. The Panel was told that through work with School Ambassadors and projects to encourage cycling, this had been resolved without necessitating changes to the 463 service. Charles King (East Surrey Transport Committee) stated that papers had been agreed at the Mobility Forum with recommendations such as improving access to Croydon University Hospital and the High Street and resolving the lack of Bus routes from the East of the Borough stopping at Fairfield Halls. The Officer assured the Panel that these papers had been fed back to TfL, and that it had been agreed that there would be at least one bus route servicing Fairfield Halls from the East. It was also expressed to the Panel that there were long waiting times for the 109 bus on London Road. A panel member suggested that if some buses from Croydon University Hospital stopped at the Streatham Bus Garage before stopping at Streatham Station on their routes, it would increase ease of access to Central London. The Chair noted that both of these would be included within the Bus Review. The Officer also noted that all previously raised and unaddressed concerns would be collated and sent to TfL to feed into the review. There was also a query as to whether the TfL Bus Review would address accidents on buses and the frequently large gap between the curb and the bus entrance. The Chair asked whether any driver training was planned or had already taken place around these issues. The Arriva London representative informed the Panel that there was ongoing training on both issues. The review seems to havbe been discussed again at the 16 October meeting but no minutes are available as yet. The Westfield development is likely to be years away assuming of course that it is still going ahead. I hadn't really thought about the 463 as it operates some distance from Croydon town centre but I would have thought it could possibly justify a modest increase? I don't know what more can be done to improve access to Mayday Hospital (as it's still known) or Fairfield Halls, rerouting any buses from the east that way will obviously take them away from the High Street. I don't understand the bit about Streatham Garage, it no longer exists.

If a route from the east is to call at the Fairfield Halls and the need to remove a route from West Croydon BS ... 194 or 433 would seem like good candidates .... but probably making 2+2=5

Noone ever gets on at the first stop and it's not exactly a long walk from Hare Street to the new first stop in Calderwood Street I'm trying to remember the consultation back in 2009(?) that led to the current arrangements - I think the original proposal was a combination of the two, running over the 51 route to Woolwich Arsenal then the current 96 to terminate at Monk Street. cl54 's comments on the 386 suggest this was not a popular plan. Of course, they might surprise us and be doing something more interesting, like running it into the Arsenal site but I doubt it. The running time for the 386 To Woolwich Arsenal station would have doubled under the 2009 proposed re-routeing. The council are proposing to make Sandy Hill Road one way (towards Woolwich). This should improve things. Hare Street is used by a lot of people who want to get a seat. Me included.

Just read on Facebook that a 15H consultation is imminent - reduction to summer weekends and bank holidays. I love Routemasters but for me, use of heritage vehicles at running days and rallies is infinitely preferable to the 15H, and there are many opportunities to ride on interesting buses most weekends from April right through to the beginning of December nowadays.

Ooh a consultation where I can take a more extreme position that TfL! Bin the whole route.

And double deck the 433 as well? Surely there is enough bus traffic from West Croydon to TH Pond for single deckers to suffice 60,109,198,250,289 ... would that little extra capacity that like be lost be genuinely needed?

I'd imagine so as the 64 does pick up people along London Road going beyond Croydon not to mention the Whitgift & Dingwall Road stops being very popular for passengers wanting a 64. Don't forget that the 433 will be running at its current frequency which is lower than the 64 (64 is every 7-8 minutes Monday to Saturday whilst 433 is every 10 minutes Monday to Friday and every 15 minutes on Saturdays) so there will be lost capacity anyway.

Those routes are busy elsewhere and I certainly wouldn't advocate single decking them in fact I think the 289 should be double decked. I wouldn't be greatly surprised to see the 64 withdrawn between West Croydon and TH.

Never advocated single decking any of them, was just posing could the 433 be extended from Croydon to TH Pond instead of the 64, bearing in mind they share the route between Croydon and Selsdon.

Ok obviously I've misunderstood you, either way I wouldn't be surprised to see the 64 curtailed at West Croydon without replacement.

However the 15 does often need assistance with loadings to and from the Tower. If the 15H only runs weekends they are going to be taking up valuable space in the garage all week although they would come in handy in the event of a tube strike.

I suspect around three RMs plus long derelict RM1280 will be sold with that sort of reduction on the 15H
