Better pedestrian crossing facilities are most certainly needed. Is the 20mph limit just between Marble Arch and the flyover?

Oh great, another 20mph zone ... Some of us are quite pleased. The lower end of Edgware Road (from Orchardson Street to Marble Arch) has heavy pedestrian footfall and any measures which make it safer for vulnerable road users get my full support. There is really no need for any vehicle to be doing in excess of 20mph along this section of Edgware Road, the only exception being emergency vehicles on full blues-and-twos. Don't assume that all bus enthusiasts are against 20mph zones.

There is when there is no traffic. Lots of bus regulation and more expense in new timetables to match greater running times.

I've only looked at it quickly and wondered if it meant the full length of Edgware Road which I wouldn't have agreed with.

Yes I'd be OK with the Maida Vale stretch and other stretches staying at 30mph. Just reduce the speed where it goes through busy town centres such as Kilburn, Cricklewood, Colindale.

Not sure I agree with 20mph zones AND traffic lights every few hundred metres
If traffic is restricted that much then most minor turnings can sort themselves out, without traffic lights, the original reason for many of the traffic lights at the minor junctions was to avoid traffic having to pull out into fast moving traffic streams. Especially frustrating at night, and Sunday mornings when there is no traffic in other directions but the red light is programmed to stay red for 40-60 seconds for no good reason.
Perhaps it’s just me but lights that do not revert to local sensor control at quiet periods are irritating.

Don't assume that all bus enthusiasts are against 20mph zones. Most road users are - in Croydon we have them and it is near impossible to actually drive at 20 safely due to the impatience of other road users - you either have the horn beeped or someone up your read end. A good idea that looks great on paper but so does fish and chips....

This country is so obsessed with bleeding traffic lights - there are far too many and a number should actually be removed.
As for 20mph zones, they aren’t a solution at all. They do not make a road safer & thus are a waste of money especially for the poor motorist as driving at 20 is less economical. Honestly, they’ve not got a clue when it comes to roads.

I just had to say this but 20mph is bullocks!!! Presumably you take the same attitude towards pedestrian safety. The whole point of a 20mph zone is that it reduces the frequency and severity of collisions involving pedestrians and vehicles.

The whole point of a 20mph zone is that it reduces the frequency and severity of collisions involving pedestrians and vehicles. Except that isn't exactly true because many boroughs with silly borough wide 20mph limits have still seen severe accidents with fatalities.
