Well this article confirms what everyone was thinking when the central London bus consultation was leaked a few weeks ago. And it's also generally known that if you're active in old age it helps keep problems at bay; same for humans, same for decades-old Routemaster engines. What's really striking to me at this point is the level of leaking coming out against the son of a bus driver Mayor. Stakeholders may be frightful of any potential investment they have in the buses industry, and/or they're genuinely concerned with the path this Mayor & TfL are going down.

Personally, I'm one of the first post-war RTs (there were rather a lot of us) born in 1948, still with my original engine, though it takes a lot of lubrication to keep it going, and it hates the early shifts. The bodywork is a bit suspect these days, and going upstairs is not always advisable or desirable. I still get a good run out most days, excepting in the snow. The Routemaster is a bit of an upstart imo, but is well loved by many and I'm no longer jealous of its longevity, though I'd point out it's had more facelifts and Botox than Joan Collins to keep it going.

Oh bless you - you do make me laugh. By this token I’m an early DMS. I don’t think I break down quite so much though 🤣
