Does anyone know why Bethnal Green, Cambridge Heath, London Fields, Hackney Downs and Clapton stations are closed until 1st January?
Services are operating between Liverpool Street and Enfield Town/Chingford at a reduced frequency, so they must be running through the stations without stopping. Rail tickets are being accepted on local TfL buses.

Apparently due to maintenance works talking place. I assume that involves works to the stations rather than the tracks

IIRC the same nonsense applied last year and at Easter when the inner area stations were unserved despite trains rattling through. I think it's a money saving gesture as is the decision to run the Chingford line at x20 headway rather than the year round x15 frequency. I can't recall whether Greater Anglia cut / removed services in the past but I have a feeling they didn't. TfL probably take the view that the bus service is good enough to substitute for the trains thus allowing them to save on the staffing costs. The irony is that next year there won't be a bus to Liverpool St from the Clapton (station) area once the 48 is axed.

I'm just going by the official TfL line and what's been posted in our weekly Traffic Notice at work.

My feeling is they will use the non station lines between Hackney Downs and Liv St. it could have been possible to keep the x15 headway and terminate Cheshunt trains at Enfield Town, but I’m no timetable expert! At Edmonton Green and Silver Street, they have re-done the temporary platform extensions from GA days (presumably for the 710s whenever they come!). So there could be platform works at the above mentioned closed stations. Speculation on my part

Oh sure - I'm just struggling to imagine what work is being done given they've all been refurbed inside and out. They can't work at height at platform level nor within a metre of the platform edge so can't be doing much at platform level. All the insides have been tidied up and repainted and some stops have new station entrance buildings. I still think it's a cost saving measure dressed up as something else.

Speculation on my part As Enfield Town gets 4 tph in the peaks then of course they could run that headway over the festive period. More than enough platform capacity at Enfield to handle this. If the route was entirely shut then yes, of course, they could be doing platform works but not with trains running. There is next to nothing they can do with the power energised and trains passing. You need a possession to do work safely - perhaps they are doing something at Southbury and Turkey Street?

Rail tickets are being accepted on local TfL buses. Could be a planning error and or could be as mentioned above; works at the actual station itself, my weekly traffic notice showed no southern services via forest hill until the new year due to the diverted Vic services using London Bridge and not all Vic and usual LBG services can all use low level platforms, Someone noticed that nothing was even stopping at New Cross Gate fast line platforms so passengers could at least transfer to LO services, so Cat/Tat services were made to make additional calls all day and should do now until normal services resumes after Christmas/New Year works
