I could go through alot that I've been on but I am going to do it based on what I have driven and these are based on early/late shifts Best: 123, 73/N73 (before Victoria cut) 259, 184, 221, 142, 258 (between Harrow bus station & Watford) H12, 326, 251. Worst: 19, 139, 341 What on earth is wrong with the 139? Nice view of the Thames, then Fleet Street which admittedly used to be a bit slow, Regent St, Oxford St, Baker St, then along Abbey Road through leafy St Johns Wood to West Hampstead, then the nicest part of Finchley Road, what's not to like? I really am not going to go over it again as I have mentioned enough times why I don't like the 139 in the RATP thread but seeing as I actually drive the route alot and spend hours on it I get to see the full ins and outs of it from a drivers perspective which is alot different to a passenger taking in views of landmarks etc.

Just a quick example Linus, there are 4 sets of temporary lights between Belsize Road and West Hampstead, West End Green. Lost me 5 minutes and the roads are fairly quiet so imagine on a normal day. It is not because the roads are quiet aswell as there have been ocassions when there has been 3 sets of temporary lights within that area that has caused mayhem.

I guess this question could go in this thread rather than starting a new one. Excluding essential journeys like school and work trips you can only travel on 5 bus routes. What 5 routes do you choose and if possible why?
I'd go for. 65. This has been my favourite route in London for a long time so this has to be included. X26. Being the longest you can have some great trips on this route and I also would have to choose a route that serves Heathrow Airport. 20. Probably time to choose a route in another part of London now. Only been on it once and really liked it. N22. Have to include a night route and not been on that many but one I use more often than others is the N22, if nt too dark you can get great views of the river Thames. 465. A great rural route.
now it's your turn 😁.

Not much scenery as well. 116 - Just a boring route in general. Nothing to see.

When I went on the 235 it wasn't that bad but have heard from others that it gets very busy and I'd say in Sunbury the 216 is the better route.

To add to my list I would say the N9 is pretty good as well.

A10 - I mean, a bus on a motorway sounds fun! 491 - The route passes through an island (technically), shopping centres and a business park - quite intriguing. 375 - The end isn't too good, but it would be quite serene and a nice change from the bustling towns.

For me the 139 is great route as it is a local service going to some useful places. I can totally understand @volvo point of view, and how it can be incredibly frustrating to drive. I share many of those frustrations as a passenger. The route has so much potential to be a great route, yet is let down my all the points made. For what it is worth last weekend there were no temporary lights between Belsize Road and West Hampstead - long may that last!

For what it is worth last weekend there were no temporary lights between Belsize Road and West Hampstead - long may that last! As I have said there are days and times when the 139 is a bliss to drive and usually that is between 5-7.30am even if there is temporary lights, Sundays are generally not too bad and also after about 10pm however in the evenings is so quiet at times you just find yourself holding back constantly even on a 50 minute trip. Then there can be some evenings (pre covid) where your sitting in traffic in West end on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday around 9-10.30pm but most of the time I couldn't stand the route and it's not just the route but also alot of the passengers like the ones who keep ringing the bells 5-10 times between stops and it's beyond irritating as the bells on a Gemini are very loud, then you have the people who ring the bell last minute or out out their hand last minute or just simply stand/sit there when your serving the stop and as you are are closing doors they want to get on or off. I have been so much happier since that route has left honestly.

Dont like the 139 either from a passenger POV. The bus barely moves because of the numerous random one lane traffic on St Johns Wood Road there is about 5, the Lisson Grove works also have slowed traffic. Once you get to Baker Street, the bus will not reach past 10mph its just horrible, Oxford Street, Regent Street all the way to Waterloo its a standstill. You wont really see much of landmarks only because there are buses just on the roads like a bus garage but on a road stationary.
The 139 was also on diversion yesterday which was so annoying we had to go through Marylebome and Gloucester Road because Dorset Street was closed towards Selfridges and it was a mess. Felt bad for anyone going on the 2 because it had to go do a whole circuit from Marylebone to Baker Street to Park Road back to Marylebone when it should of just curtailed to Baker Street or Portman Square as the 2’s were empty except one I saw which picked up at Old Marylebone Town Hall for some reason.

The 111 is the absolute worst route to be on passenger wise and in some cases the 272 as its unreliable one of the best would be the 27 and 134 imo

246 - An interesting route in general, would be great on a summer Sunday to visit Chartwell It is - just choose a sunny summer Sunday. Chartwell deserves to be seen in the sun - it’s just a little sad when it’s raining!

I've seen the 246 busy on a Sunday when the weather is nice and of course it's only hourly.

Double deckers are not cleared for the Chartwell section and the deckers that are blinded for the 246 don’t carry Chartwell blinds. You’re right though - we can load quite heavily into and out of Chartwell although I’ve not had any problems with loadings since we took over in September

Got to be honest didn't really know anything about the 313 until recently and even though I'm not the biggest fan of LTs I'd also like to try out in the near future.
