So would there be no more Intercity 125's coming into London anymore? Not from GWR, however Class 43s will still be operating in on other routes as I think LNER and EMT still operate them on London routes.

So would there be no more Intercity 125's coming into London anymore? Not on the Great Western route. However 125s still run into Kings Cross on LNER services and St Pancras on East Midlands Trains services. As things stand the LNER units will be phased out when the new Azumas start taking over non electrified journeys to places like Aberdeen / Inverness / Hull / Harrogate. Azumas started work on some Leeds trips last week and also the AM peak trip from Hull. I don't know how the workings will ramp up over the weeks and months. There have been signalling interference issues north of Doncaster when IEPs run on electric power which require mods to the trains and changes to trackside assets by Network Rail. AIUI both of those changes are being made now. I will certainly miss the HSTs - been travelling on them for nigh on 40 years. Haven't been on an Azuma / IEP yet - the general reaction on social media / enthusiast circles has not been great especially to the seating. Apparently engine reliability on the GWR bi-modes is a tad variable although trains can still run on non electrified sections if an engine or two fail on them. Obviously doesn't apply where the wires are up on GWR!

Been on an IET two times now just can't get used to them.

Altough shame they got rid of the slam door but you can certainly see why.

Has anyone been on the nwe 2+4 GWR HSTs? If you can bear waiting until August I’ll be down in that neck of the woods and if I catch one, I’ll let you know!

Has anyone been on the nwe 2+4 GWR HSTs? Yes, but I can't really say much useful about it, as I was going to a hospital appointment of some significance, and frankly paid little attention to its interior. Sorry! Oh, maybe I was being thick, but had to walk through three carriages before I found an obvious loo, but I was a bit distracted.

GWR ran a special from Oxford to Paddington departing Oxford 11:27 today for 175th anniversary of Didcot-Oxford line
Managed to do it in 37 mins 35 seconds (which I think is average of just over 100mph) Previous best was a HST in August 1982 of 40 min 45 seconds (93.1mph)

Has anyone been on the nwe 2+4 GWR HSTs? Yes, I rode one from Exeter St Davids to Plymouth last May. The sliding doors made a change for these trains, even though a vast majority of trains have them now.

The other week I took a journey on one of the castle sets from Exeter to Bristol the air con had broken and it was a pretty terrible journey because of that. I couldn't quite believe just how long the journey takes from Penzance to Cardiff and was wondering before these trains where introduced to that line what was used previously?

Don’t think it was a straight replacement. When HSTs were replaced on London-Devon/Cornwall services the intention was to run 5car sets for part of the route, (but was discovered the splitting/joining was slow). So extra services were run south of Bristol to compensate for the shorter trains. (Bristol-Cardiff also needed strengthening, so ended up with Cardiff-Cornwall services)

Sorry if I misunderstood your post.
