The Mayor may not be continuing for much longer, with an election around the corner... the Hopper time limit is too short. 2 hours would work better. People see it as the con it is. Image is everything, pax see how dull buses in London are compared to everyone else outside the M25... no advertising the service to anyone, vague blinds... low speeds... people might just sit in a comfortable taxi rather than on a bus in traffic... Put the fare up.... scrap Hopper.... cap bus fares after two journeys per day.... there's my Election Manifesto, free for anyone to use. Oh, and vow to end bus regulation en route except in emergency situations. I think we really need to work out how bus journey times can be reduced in central London, let's say the timing there was 10 years ago. That will in itself drive more custom and at the same times reduce costs as fewer buses will be needed to do the same mileage. This means finding better junction designs and more bus priority.

Any idea when the bus patronage figures pdf will be released for the 2018/19 period?? It’s been ages now. They’re probably changing the methodology again to get “a more accurate“ an inflated figure for each route to disguise the falling patronage Last year the figures were released in mid-September. I take back my previous comment about non publication of the stats. Diamond Geezer posted about them on 1 September. However the link to the spreadsheet is not working today - looks like an update to the TfL website pages has broken the links.
Route 18 is the most popular route now having supplanted the 25 - no surprise there.
Best to read DG's post for a good flavour as to how things have changed. I have no idea when or if I will be able to update my own spreadsheet as it is quite an involved task - bit lacking in energy and brain power at the moment!

Very long and thin but can be zoomed in on hugely without losing definition Excellent work there, only problem at the minute is that somehow routes 1-54 aren't showing as well as top 50 or so most used routes so can you fix the please.
I would also like to see the 387/EL3 stats merge as they essentially still the same route and the same goes to the 433/T33 stats.

The quickest way to improve journey times is to have more bus priority traffic lights. Have you ever approached a red light on a bus and waited 2-4 minutes for a green light? Even if you save a minute at a traffic light, it counts as a lot if you sum up the total number of traffic lights on the route.

What we also need is more traffic lights which hold cars back, but allow buses to overtake so that buses can be at the front of the queue at the traffic light. These can be found on Shepherd's Bush Green, Putney Bridge, and Walworth Road. There should definitely be something at the western end of the Strand which allows buses to take priority, as the gridlock along there is intolerable.
