It is fantasy but this time its made by Ilford Recorder itself rather than Redbridge Council.

This seems to have gone a bit under the radar, I'm putting it in this thread as it seems to also mention a couple of new routes being introduced in the area. www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news/politics/ilford-hill-transformation-project-1-6405058That's the next gyratory project for us all to look forward to. Some key stand out features to me at the moment just looking at it is the fact that the roundabout at the top of Ilford Lane is seemingly going to be turned into a junction while the 296/396 stand seems to be getting replaced by a building.

From an outsider point of view, I think they're missing a trick in terms of speeding up buses between Ilford Station & Hainault Street by replacing the pedestrian section with a bus only road or even adopt something similar to Oxford where certain pedestrian roads can also be used by buses which worked seamlessly. Then, they could renovate the area where the library is instead - maybe move the market stalls there and possibly open new shops up. Also, shame to see no restricted access to Cranbrook Road except buses as far up as Coventry Road/Beal Road.

I would say its bit of a wait to see thing to until it actually happens or least when the proposal of this is out in full detail. This could go quite interesting for some routes such as the 169 towards Clayhall and the stand arrangements for the 296/396. Also, shame to see no restricted access to Cranbrook Road except buses as far up as Coventry Road/Beal Road. The roads that lead into Central Library stops are already bus only sections so I can't see it would be quicker than going directly via the High Road and you will likely lead into frequent pedestrian conflict with the buses given the high pedestrian footfall and pavement will be have to be narrowed so the buses can go though there.
As for the market thing, there are plenty of market stalls along the pedestrianised part of the High Road already and I believe there is going to be a new market place by the car park on Chadwick Road, the Cineworld complex is also getting a renovation over the past couple of months.
Finally for Cranbrook Road, unfortunately you can't restrict access along that part of Cranbrook Road as there isn't a alternative way to divert the traffic and is one of only 3 main roads that go North of Ilford Town Centre with others being the North Circular and Ley Street with both of those road already having to deal with loads of traffic.

I'm aware that the sections around the library are already bus only however buses shouldn't be forced to run around the outside of the town centre and then back in as it increases journey times. If buses ran along the pedestrian section, it would avoid the need to run around the town centre & back in. Also, the shared scheme I mentioned was merely one of two options and the footfall in Oxford is also high. The secondary effect is potential to possibly revitalise the high street as it can be shown that buses directly serve shops would mean a boost for both public transport & traders I'm aware there are market stalls currently on the pedestrian section and it these I'm referring to when I said they could be relocated to where the library is. I understand that will leave two roads north of Ilford but the problem is if you don't restrict other traffic, congestion will simply increase and bus patronage continue to decline. Cranbrook Road at the Ilford regularly snarls up whenever I've used it and seems ideal for some sort of priority.

Was in Ilford today funny enough! I don't really see the point in making Ilford Hill buses only buses have a dedicated bus lane already and will still need to be mainly in the left lane to serve the stops.
I just hope these changes improve pedestrian crossing as it is currently a nightmare crossing outside Sainburys.

It's been 2 years since this and this hasn't happened yet. The problem with these schemes in Ilford is how long they take, you have schemes like the western gyratory which can change alot of stuff but this seems to be overhyped by the recorder.
Also I don't see the point as buses going towards Ilford from Newham wouldn't benefit from stopping and Ilford Circus (where st Mary's Chapel is) unless something is done to pavements all the walls as it seems very unattractive in my view.
But on the hopeful note this will help buses terminating at hainault Street if stands are made on winston way and if the roundabouts were T junctions and underpasses removed. I wonder what will happen to 169, 296 and 396, not sure if the recorder mixed up rerouting and new routes together.
