If you could run South Eastern, what would you do?
For me I would:
1: Boost Penge East and Beckenham Junction to 6tph, these are both busy Stations.
2: I know this is a Thameslink issue but it runs on a predominately South Eastern network so I’ll include it in, the Rainham service is far too slow, it replaced a well used, established semi fast service from Charing Cross to Gillingham via Lewisham and Woolwich, so the Thameslink service has to be sped up, its stupid that the fasts now start at Gravesend yet the stoppers run further out to Medway, so this restructured, Thameslink service should call only at Greenhithe, Dartford, Abbey Wood, Woolwich, Charlton, Blackheath, Lewisham then London Bridge and the Core
3: 6tph Cannon Street via Greenwich.
4: Hayes and Sidcup lines to Victoria, Bexleyheath line will have Cannon Street only, still at 6tph, with a 2tph boost to Blackfriars thanks to Thameslink at Blackheath and Lewisham Likewise Hayes and Sidcup lines should no longer serve Cannon Street. and have Victoria and CX trains only, so the Greenwich, North Kent and Bexleyheath lines will only be served by Cannon Street and Blackfriars trains, while the Sidcup, Grove Park and Hayes lines will have Victoria and Charing Cross
5: speed up Classic Mainline services.

Refurbish Brixton Station seeing as it will never be rebuilt due to cost.

Install ticket barriers at all stations.

Install ticket barriers at all stations. Easier said than done, just not practical at many stations.

Could have stoppers From Gillingham, all stations to Bromley South then Beckenham, Penge, Herne Hill, Victoria

Refurbish Brixton Station seeing as it will never be rebuilt due to cost. A huge shame Brixton is effectively stuck as it is. If someone was ready to spend some serious cash maybe they could squeeze some platforms for the London Overground somewhere around there. It's really irritating the line going right through the middle of it yet having no station anywhere near there!

Charing Cross and Waterloo East would see a lot fewer trains as far as I can see, whereas Victoria, always under pressure and far less geared up to quick turn-rounds than CX, gets more. Given that CX is much nearer the West End, within walking distance for many, and not subject to its underground station getting closed through congestion every morning peak, unlike Vic, I can't see this being popular. Agreed, Thameslink needs recasting: don't know anyone who supports with the current position.

I use the Greenwich line into Charing Cross at least 3 times a week. For 8 years previously I avoided SouthEastern as the journey times were so unreliable with guaranteed delays through London Bridge and Charlton. In addition the odd pattern of fast trains whizzing through my packed station made me favour bussing it into Woolwich for the DLR then squishing onto the tube. It was often standing all the way, but more reliable. I did that horrible journey for many years. Since the new SouthEastern timetable and now that the Thameslink shambles has settled down, there is a massive improvement. I’ve now switched back to the Greenwich line. The journey times are very reliable and we have more trains from my local station to a wider variety of central London stops. Passengers are no longer left behind on the platform during the morning peak. My arrival into London Bridge is remarkably predictable compared to what it used to be. There is even some slack in the timetable that enables trains to make up lost time between London Bridge and Charing Cross. I was the biggest critic of SouthEastern once upon a time, but the current service pattern and reliability on the Greenwich line is excellent.

Regarding point 2 - Maybe send 1 of the 2 trains per hour via Lewisham, rather than both? I agree that the service as it is now is too slow but I would keep it going to Rainham. With the one via Greenwich it calls at Greenwich, Charlton, Woolwich Arsenal, Abbey Wood, Dartford, Greenhithe, Gravesend and then all stations, then via Lewisham - Lewisham, Blackheath, Charlton and so on. I don't think both trains should go via Lewisham since I think Lewisham has enough on its plate already with the services going through it.

My Lewisham Thameslink service would replace the current Woolwich line CX service, not in addition Lewisham would be able to handle it as you said.

That may be but it’s not exactly fair the those from outside the M25 have to their journeys slowed down because those in the inner suburbs want more trains to call at their station The situation at Beckenham and Penge is different since I think 4tph is too low but I don’t want outer London passengers to have their journeys slowed down, most of the Greenwich/Woolwich line was already 6tph prior to 2018 which isn’t bad
