I’m sure the last time I was there which was a couple of months ago, 65’s were still standing there so I’m lost as to why it’s suddenly redundant. I’ve seen 112’s stand there on occasion as well.

I’ve seen 112’s stand there on occasion as well. 65's are supposed to stand just by the station on the near side of the road. You do sometimes still see 65's standing at that layby, often because the stand only has space for two buses so a third has to use the layby. Usually its E8's which turf you off at the layby but it is used by any route really, and when 427's curtail at Ealing Broadway they use the layby (even with the 427 being cutback, it's a shame 207s/607s curtailed at Ealing Broadway won't be able to take any stand time).

Yes the bus stands at Ealing were rearranged last year (I think), with the 65 taking over the former 297 stand in anticipation of the plan to grass over the layby. As nothing has yet happened with the layby it's being used as an unofficial overflow stand for now.
