Would severely under utilise the lines via Norwood Junction and doubt there is the capacity to send them all down the Victoria main line. What would uses the terminating bays at LB? Terminating bays at London Bridge would be replaced by diverting the Southeastern services that currently terminate at Victoria And what happens to the stations on the SEastern lines into Victoria? Close them?

Although it’ll be much easier separating the Vic-Orp metro from the Chatham mainline services than it would be separating South Eastern metro routes from the mainline.
The Vic-Orp metro doesn’t go outside London and it’s 40 mins end to end and all the Chatham mainline services run nonstop to Bromley South
The South eastern side has a mix of fast, semi fast and stopper services and some metro services are over an hour in length, like the Victoria to Gravesend service, that’s fast to Denmark Hill then semi fast after Dartford to Gravesend calling only at Greenhithe, then all of the CX services run fast to either Lewisham, Hither Green or Ladywell And with the GTR possible split could this mean that the Medway via Woolwich service gets brought back to SE? This will complicate siphoning between what’s metro enough for TfL and what isn’t.
I think that’s why the Vic-Orp services gets mooted for being taken over by TfL as it is a proper metro route

On the subject of this thread, what new sleeper services do people think would work well in the UK or perhaps even ones to the continent via the channel tunnel?

On the subject of this thread, what new sleeper services do people think would work well in the UK or perhaps even ones to the continent via the channel tunnel? I know this used to be a night sleeper service but would like to see Euston to Holyhead again. For Europe love the idea of a London to Barcelona service. On the subject of the channel tunnel but slightly different I think Eurostar should have some competion instead of then having a complete monopoly. Came across this article on why there currently isn't any night train services through the Channel Tunnel www.wired.co.uk/article/night-trains-channel-tunnel?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=Social

I’m surprised Eurostar have never considered running sleeper services, now they’ve extended services to Amsterdam it could work, is like to see a London to Paris to Amsterdam sleeper

I think a sleeper to the continent could be a huge success if tried, you could have a service which splits at Lille with a portion going to Berlin (maybe even further to Warsaw), a portion going to Amsterdam and I think Barcelona is a great city so would love sleeper service there. A continental sleeper train has so much potential and if the timings were worked out well, could prove attractive to a range of people regardless of when they want to go to sleep. I agree with you Eurostar should have some competition, would be nice to have another operator offering some different services.

If I remember it kept getting put off, not sure what the latest is with it now. Eventually, if the market was right we could see long distance train services through the Chunnel to more European cities. But I agree, a service to Barcelona would attract someone like me. I don’t mind flying but it can be a bit boring sometimes.

R68. Extended to North Brentford Quarter. Reason. No reason other than it will become a very unique route in crossing the river Thames three times, possibly the first time that has ever happened? 290 used to have three Thames crossings at Chiswick, Richmond and Staines. This was when the route terminated at Staines Bridge Sainsbury's (or Thorpe Park on summer Sundays), and had a Mon-Fri peak extension to Chiswick (Edensor Road) as well as a Sunday extension to Hammersmith. It doesn't cross the Thames at all now!
By the way, I know this is a fantasy thread, but it's supposed to be National Rail fantasies, not bus ones

I’m surprised Eurostar have never considered running sleeper services, now they’ve extended services to Amsterdam it could work, is like to see a London to Paris to Amsterdam sleeper There was a plan in the 90s for night services when the channel tunnel was created called ‘Nightstar’ which would have run from various parts of the UK to Paris and Brussels. There would also have been a London to Netherlands and Germany overnight service as well. I seem to remember some carriages were actually built but the project was cancelled in the late 90s and carriages that had already been built were sold off.
