I see it was planned in the late 90's to take the 92 stock of the Waterloo & City line and put them on the Central line to give additional trains, think this was a missed opportunity as I think the Central line doesn't have enough trains. The Waterloo & City would have gained 72' stock ex Northern line. I think LU was short sighted in not retaining 72' or 67' stock to use to bolster the Piccadilly line or extra RAT trains.

Incidentally the Piccadilly Line's 73 stock cars are longer than the 72 variants so as to cater for the airport passengers with their luggage, partly evident with the extra space by the doors. This is not to say that the 72 stock couldn't be used on the Piccadilly Line bespite not being quite so passenger friendly in that respect. Had the relative short-lived 83 and 86 stock from the Jubilee Line been double-doored¹ and more reliable perhaps they could of topped up the Piccadilly Line? I think their cars were around the same length as I believe they were six confirmations like the 73 stock. ¹ - would it of then being feasible to cosmetically convert them from their single leaf format?
