Apparently these morons disrupted dlr and jubilee line today morning. At Canning Town - commuters dragged one of the protestors off the roof of a jubilee line and have them a good ol’ Thrashing. Saw a video on Facebook
I normally don’t condone violence but must say these extinction rebellion guys have just been p****g me off as this thrashing was well deserved. Disrupting people’s lives and causing people to be docked wages is not exactly going to get them much support. In fact I think this will have put several people off supporting environmental causes

A "good ol’ Thrashing" is never "well deserved", however stupid the initial action.

A "good ol’ Thrashing" is never "well deserved", however stupid the initial action. Agreed that a thrashing is not well deserved. Rightfully those that have committed a crime have been arrested this morning according to the BTP. What i will say is the actions of Extinction Rebellion (XR) are widely condemned and not condoned by city hall or national government. Disrupting daily lives, as is the intention with this group, is not going to make people want to bring about change to the environment, it only serves to make people want to silence XR and wider protesting. XR activist have the freedom to protest in designated areas. When they extend beyond this the police should intervene as has been done. My question is why have we not seen XR in the likes of Chelsea, Kingston or Kensington...? Instead targeting working class who have no option but tube or bus travel.

I think any station in East London would have resulted in this taking place, end of the day people need to look at the immediate consequence of not being able to get their work and losing out on wages. Hopefully this finally makes XR reconsider what they're actually doing and makes them realise how much of the general public are actually supporting them in this.

I read where a BTP social worker was "...concerned that commuters took matters into their own hands."

Instead targeting working class who have no option but tube or bus travel. Sorry for pruning your post but it was essentially what I wanted to comment about. News sources state 2 people have been arrested and there were only two protesters on top of the train. I think everyone can do the maths for themselves... Your other point is icing on the cake. ALL XR protests on the Tube network have been conducted in east London, why's that then?! A spokesperson suggested it's because it's safer* than doing it below ground, but there's loads of above-ground stations in west London. There's also a financial district in the Square Mile & there's some subsurface stations in the vicinity. Yet for some reason they choose to target Shadwell, Canary Wharf, Canning Town and Stratford stations for the eastern financial district but nothing for the Square Mile district. Just like me spotting a Chelsea tracktor (top end Range Rover to be precise) used to tow a trailer on the first day of these sets of protests, it's utter bias. They can't deny this middle class divide in their protests on public transport after today, and the class divide as a whole with their protests overall. *Don't underestimate how much east Londoners value public transport, or else!!

Sheer madness, all this will do is weaponise lobby journalists who will now have a free hand in spinning the story that some middle class loons have been ignorant enough to disrupt an electric railway, one of the biggest emissions savers in the Capital.
Canning Town is not a wealthy area, the sheer arrogance of a XR spokesperson to say, “I don’t think people understand quite how serious the situation is”, sends out completely the wrong message and will only harden public criticism of this group completely detracting from the core issue that they are campaigning about.

They're not very good at knowing when they're in the way either - had a small group in my shop the other day clogging up the aisle staring at bread - maybe the bread is not environmentally friendly? I read that Caroline Lucas is trying to overturn the ban thus the Greens are part of the problem and why I wouldn't ever vote for them alongside lack of actual policies. I note nothing has been said about the actions of ER's rich benefactor or one of their leading spokespeople who was day before a rally, was seen on a plane - www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thesun.co.uk/news/10123037/extinction-rebellion-founder-central-america-luxury/amp/

Watched the lunchtime ITV news and they had one of the founders of ER on giving the usual politician style answers. However, her last response was interesting - when asked would ER protest on public transport again, her reply was, "I don't think so, probably not" However, this is a lie because if they block roads, then they're affecting buses which is....,public transport!
The mayor says he is unhappy with ER for disrupting public transport, name dropping the Tube & DLR specifically due to today's events but in the past has never mentioned buses when they've been severely disrupted - funny that!
