So the new links reported all are in line with what I would have expected. Main towns and facilities being linked. I wonder what these C routes will look like. Go Ahead are doing well out of the continuing demise of First. Whether this latest adventure returns profit for the demanding Go Ahead shareholders though, is another question. As a resident of the area I've considerable concerns over what is proposed, whether a lot of them are achievable in the short term (bus driver recruitment being one big issue) and whether, in the long term, some of the new routes are really needed, given they're here for seven years, if you believe the hype. I'm no fan of FirstGroup as a whole (they should be banned from operating trains imo) but First Kernow is well run and bucks the trend of falling passenger numbers. In any case, most of them are run commercially during weekday daytimes, and I feel Go Cornwall (as I believe they'll be branded) will struggle to operate evening and Sunday services on these, particularly as many are in the West Cornwall area where they'll have little presence, other than a few small sized single deckers. In any case, this is merely the first of many changes coming to Cornwall, with 'low fare initiatives', bus priority measures etc etc supposedly coming soon, courtesy of a £23.5 million grant from the government over four years. Cornwall's prize for voting Tory in every seat; no other comment from me.

As well as First, I wonder which companies currently run the tendered services that Go-Ahead have just won?
Not necessarily related, but I remember riding Jackett's Coaches from Plymouth to Barnstaple and Hartland to Bude in 2013 for example.

There is no longer a Plymouth-Barnstaple route, whilst Hartland to Bude is now Stagecoach 219.

Funnily enough, I remember the driver of my Barnstaple - Hartland bus speculating that Stagecoach were about to take over Jackett's Coaches. The Plymouth - Barnstaple route was a Saturday-only X85 IIRC. I still wonder which companies in Cornwall besides First will lose work when Go-Ahead take over the tenders in April.

A Line coaches of Torpoint look as though they have already thrown in the towel. Their Facebook page stated on 6th January: "Due to ongoing mechanical issues, the 33 Torpoint service will not run until further notice, unfortunately we have had no choice but to cease the service". A short-notice Cancellation of Registration has now been granted to be effective from 18th January. The route only operated during Monday-Friday shopping hours and is pretty much covered by Go Cornwall Bus Torpoint routes.

The latter seem true to their name from my observations of their minibus operation, drivers leaving their cabs to assist the less mobile, as, of course, these fall without the low floor legislation. One gain should be that they will become more accessible, which can only be a good thing imo.

Hopleys Coaches operate two vehicles on the 304 Truro to Porthtowan (one on Saturdays), and a third on the 315 Redruth to St. Agnes. Both route registrations show subsidy ‘in part’, so one presumes some journeys (or parts of) are operated under contract to the council, or maybe the Saturday service? I’m not sure if there’s a way to find out. I read an article in a recent edition of Coach & Bus Week about Hopleys - will have to look at a back issue online if it’s still available! It looks like Go Ahead are actively looking to recruit local drivers from other companies. They are asking for qualified drivers in Cornwall to apply, stating their current operator and route knowledge.

I think it has the potential to turn quite toxic if things don't work out well. Having relatives born and bred there, some have an inherent disdain for "visitors".
