I honestly think this is going to be massive! I know some think it's just like the Flu! The Government are really making a mess of the situation. I don't think we have ever lived thought anything like this. So what do you think the government should be doing differently? I think we need a lockdown I know others don't agree especially online its mixed 50 50. Elections cancelled, Marathon cancelled , Sports cancelled but we all still commuting on the tube and buses and sitting in offices. I appreciate I might look like I'm trolling for a reaction but just feel the government have got this wrong.

Many young people think that there is little or no risk to them and even many older people think it's a risk worth taking.

I'm quite looking forward to being "forced" to stay indoors for a week- got of stuff to catch up with on Netflix. Coronavirus preparations are now in full swing on the railway I work at now including restricting access to certain areas of depots. If the risk threat is raised again there may be some reductions in services and other measures that will affect day to day operations

What evidence is their that a lockdown will not work given it actually hasn't been done in this country? At some point, one will have to be undertaken because this isn't the end but instead the beginning of it. There isn't a risk to young people themselves but the risk is more that they'll carry it into the path of people who are at risk such as the elderly and people with ongoing health issues - personally, those older people should stay indoors given the risk it's up to them, just hopefully they then don't complain if they do end up in hospital from it.

How are you going to enforce any such lockdown? The same way Italy currently is - police & army. Currently, you need a permit to be out in Italy and you can only get one every 3 days. Italy have gone further with actual jail terms for anyone breaking the lockdown which is harsh personally - I'd simply just arrest people instead.

In the case of Italy I can actually understand their harsh penalty on lockdown procedures considering the death toll rate over there. Also by imprisoning them it should 'hopefully' deter others from breaking the lockdown, or at the very least prevent the perpetrator from doing so again during this present crisis....especially if he or she may be unknowingly infected.

Those who want to go out during a lockdown let them its about the people who want to remain isolated and not be forced to go to work

To be pedantic, neither the election nor the Marathon have been cancelled, they’ve been postponed. Secondly, numbers on public transport have decreased in many area’s & many large organisations are insisting that staff work from home. My personal perception on the CoronaVirus is that the media have successfully duped the general public with scaremongering. I’m a train driver with respiratory issues (Asthma & a Heart Murmur) I’m not remotely worried about it, I switch my cab air con off and drive with the window open, I followed this method prior to the scare and will continue to do so, mainly because it keeps me alert. Seeing the masses go out and empty the shops saddens me because the vast majority of the elderly who go shopping during the day go without. The coronavirus is likely set to send the economy into recession, I personally don’t see the point in the county going into lockdown, however, I do feel that BoJo’s address to the country was a little to lax for my liking.

OK yes I worded it wrong , postponed! same outcome the events not happening in the next few weeks. OK yes you might not be worried and that's fine BUT and this is the big BUT what I don't think people appreciate that you could catch the virus and pass onto a elderly person without realising before the symptoms show.

This morning Sadiq saying he will keep bus fares at £1.50 for another 5 years, but rail and tube fares will be increasing by cost of living for next mayor term (if re-elected)
Now stuck with his term continuing so TfL stuck with extra year of fares freeze. Going to be big hole in finances if usage and revenue falls.

Going to be big hole in finances if usage and revenue falls. Reports say £640m was lost to the fares freeze along with the lost revenue from Crossrail which I believe equates to over 1 billion if I’m right.

Italy has an older population on average than most countries, so need to do everything they can to protect the elderly. - A lockdown will be a good thing. We need to flatten the curve to ensure that there is enough capacity to treat the elderly/immunocompromised. It’s a decent sign - the same wasn’t attempted for swine flu because that had passed the point of no return...
