I don't mean to sound harsh but the maintenance work at TH is questionable. Why do some of their E400s look lopsided especially on the rear wheels and even some of the E200s that used to be at DX. I know DX gets a lot of flack but TH need to really improve on their maintenance works. N present their buses well. I agree that a lot of TH buses are a bit down at the heel looking although they have been a bit of a Cinderella garage for years. Hopefully the HA's and the electric buses for the 64 when they arrive will be better presented.

I don't disagree with you about N ... always hold them up as the standard other garages should aspire to One thing you need to consider is the age of the fleet. As fleets go, the average age of the fleet is quite old at TH for a London garage, whilst N's is considerably newer. Mechanical things have a tendency to become more unreliable the more they are used, which is why you end up replacing them. Most of the TH fleet is probably in the mechanically intensive period of their lives, which with modernisation of the fleet should improve, so there is more time to allocate to the smaller details, instead of constantly firefighting trying to keep an elderly fleet on the road. When the 64 electrics turn up, that is a batch of buses requiring minimal maintenance, replacing a batch of what are more maintenance intensive, so there should be more free time. When the N fleet was mainly VLA, was it so good in their latter years?

Fair enough, did not see or use their routes as much in those days. Nearest routes for me would have been 249 or 176, routes I very rarely use. I did think a good number looked pretty tired, but suppose that is fair enough given their age. **EDIT** even the 249 was GAL then ... N routes were 2,133,176 417? Was that it?

Wondering if that's down to be mapped on potential electric routes up for tender, 59, 133/333, 137 etc I wonder if it will end up at TH for route testing on the 64 About an hour ago, heading along Southbury Road, in the general direction of E.

I did my first journey on the 325 a couple of weeks ago. I saw on the buses app ENL70 would be the bus, and I was imagining it would up falling to pieces covered in gaffa tape with an oily smell and the rear end covered in oil. What turned up was totally the opposite. A few knocks and dents yes, but nothing out of the ordinary you wouldn’t expect on any 12 year old bus, the paintwork was even shiny. And okay yes the blind box wasn’t the best. And the interior was absolutely immaculate I have to say, except for a couple of rust patches at the bottom of the rear door. I even took pictures of it I was so pleasantly surprised by it, shame it won’t let me upload them here as they’re too large. But a very very presentable bus for 12 years old, so from my experience of this bus and the 325 I really didn’t see where the stick they get comes from. and yes all old E200s are at least pretty rattly, but I’ve experienced far worse than this one.

Just to add some balance the 325 is local to me, yes the buses are starting to look tired and yes some do have dirty oil marks in the rear but not all of them. The blinds look pretty rubbish but that’s more because we are so used to smart blinds now. The buses do struggle on the hill under the the A13 but so might other E200s? Not seen many route 300s under since it was rerouted so can’t compare. Service on the 325 also always seems decent and very rarely if ever do I see bunching.

I see quite a few DX buses every day on the 175, 325 and 368 and have to say they don't look that bad for vehicles of their age. I'm surprised how much flack DX gets from certain people, especially when you consider how grotty some of River Roads vehicles are inside and out.

Honestly can’t wait for the Hybrid upgrade next year! Just hope they are newer than the existing hybrids at RR at the moment! Would love the 17 regs but guessing they will still be on the 5 unless anything changes before then.

The 17-regs are also looking shabby so not much improvement apart from the fanatic leg room on the off-side upstairs.
