Just to note, that if a bus driver does become infected with coronavirus, it is not necessarily because of the bus conditions or passengers. Bare in mind, they may have got it from people who they live with or elsewhere. It has been portrayed on the news that drivers are dying because of passengers. There is no concrete evidence of this being the sole reason, but I appreciate that it may be a factor.
I totally agree that all key workers, whether NHS staff, transport workers, retail or teachers who are looking after key workers children should receive appropriate PPE equipment. Arriva DT garage and AF London General seem to be supporting their drivers.

It's great to see DT and AF supporting drivers.

In New York there is a high amount of Transit workers there dying and it is worse than in the UK.

Really sad to see all these deaths, if only management at the companies took workers health seriously

Is there a specific charity that helps drivers in this sort of situation?
There are lots of charities that help NHS staff - and rightly so - but is there a way that passengers (or those that are staying off the buses right now) can help those in the industry and their families?

I think there was some benevolent fund. Also there is various Unite union support and a certain charity I cannot remember at the moment.

Bus usage have definitely increased since last week. I am an essential worker and I go to work only once a week and I have seen a massive increase in the usage of the buses since the rear door policy. The arguments for and against the rear door only policy both have some form of merit, but I understand the argument for rear door is greater. Bus drivers are more safe now, how about (genuine) passengers?
I do not have a solution for decreasing bus passenger numbers. Does anyone else have a solution?

Just came home from my shift on the 112 and I'm currently watching the BBC and hearing about the bus driver from Croydon that died from COVID-19, my thoughts go out to his friends and family. This really pained me a lot watching it.
As a bus driver, I'm just so thankful to God that I'm still safe and well. I pray everyday making sure that I leave and return home safely.
Guys, we can beat this virus and soon we'll be back to doing all the fun things we want to do and seeing our loved ones. I know it hasn't been easy but we can do this.
So guys, continue to look after yourselves and hopefully we get back to normal.
