With the new commissioner, what changes will we see to the London Bus Network very soon?
I hope route cuts/withdrawals aren't on the way as I don't know much about the new commissioner.

I don't think we should expect marvellous things from the new commissioner, as his hands will be tied to an incredible extent from the start, with TfL's parlous financial position and all the unknowns about the future now: also, will lightning strike twice, given that poor Bob Kiley was driven to drink and ill health by the struggle between Gordon Brown and his hated enemy Ken Livingstone, and he came with great kudos from New York?
I would expect Andy Byford to announce his no.1 priority would be to get Crossrail done in some recognisable form i.e. getting trains running through the new. central section. Whether it ends up in the originally-planned form is another matter. Heathrow might well play a less significant part in the 'new normal' and it would serve the airport authority right if that was so, given their reneging on the amount of money they were meant to plough in.

As things stand, the government bailed out TFL until October, hopefully everything is back to normal by then or it could sadly lead to more bus cuts! Amongst myself and other bus staff we predict the "new normal" will be different so by late this year the bus network could look totally or slightly different, I've no idea how!

Andy Lord, TfL's current Chief Operating Officer, will take on the role of Commissioner of TfL on an interim basis from 25 October and an update will be provided in due course.

Looks like once he was done with the Lizzie Line and funding negotiations, he didn’t see any possibility of being able to implement further improvements to the network. It must be hard job to do, being stuck between two politicians bickering like children in a playground. Also the short-termism that blights UK policy and decision making does no favours for any area that requires a stable direction and long term capital funding.
Byford was good while he lasted. Certainly a much better champion for all TfL services than his predecessor ever was. Good luck to the next person in the role. The current funding agreement takes TfL to the end of Khan’s tenure as MoL. The next MoL would be wise to strike a more conciliatory tone. I’m hoping for an independent MoL who can work across different parties, irrespective of who is in parliament. Politicians need to stop playing political football with TfL.

Agree though the current person at the DfT should also be heeding the same conciliatory tone advice

So Train Daddy is going! Given his impressive CV and the fact he started out at TfL in the 80s, it's understandable that he's going to pastures anew given he can't grow the company in the way that he wants to. In simpler terms, there's no room for improvement or modernisation given TfL's finances are in such a state. That's pretty telling and frankly quite d*mning from a man who's been at the helm of transit networks across the world.

Bit of a shame really, he seemed to be doing a great job. Was kind enough to come up to thank us whilst we were working over the weekend to prepare for the Queen’s funeral.

It seems to be for personal reasons. He is 57, and having steered TfL through an incredibly difficult period he wants to return to the US with his wife, who is American.
