551 Basildon to Walthamstow operated with some Volvo 7900s from the First Basildon 100 route 😉, also the 25 back to Oxford Circus and N25 back to Romford via Hainault and the 8 reverted back to Victoria and Scania RMLs reinstated .

Victoria is not the traditional terminus for the 8 though. Before 18th July 1992 you would have had the 25 running to Victoria, and the 8 running through to Willesden Garage instead of the 98. |

Did the 8 run through until 1992 or was it in sections with BW doing one section and AC the other or was there a regular service from Willesdon to Old Ford and Bow Church. I think the 6 did run through from AC/Kensal Rise to Hackney Wick.

I think the 6 did run through from AC/Kensal Rise to Hackney Wick. The 8 didn't run in sections. In fact it was operated solely by BW from 1982 to 1991 (or WH on Sundays from 1988). |

There was a period during the 1970s and 1980s when the Monday to Friday between peaks service was Willesden Garage to Holborn Circus, extended midday to 2 p.m. to Shoreditch Church, worked by AC Edgware Road Harrow Road flyover to Old Ford/Bow Church, worked by BW This pattern of service ensured maximum service over the Marble Arch to Red Lion Square section even allowing for curtailments, as Oxford Street shopping was considered all-important at these hours: how different from TfL thinking! |

Yes now the only part of the link maintained now is Tottenham Court Road to Holborn Circus on just one route rather then three routes from Oxo to Holborn Circus (8 running in sections and the 25) plus the 22B from TCR aswell. I do still think the 8 should reach Oxford Circus.

I do still think the 8 should reach Oxford Circus. Ideally the 8 should be providing an east/West link across Central London like it used to do but routes like that have been deemed unviable nowadays and hence we have the current situation. |
