We do but as we have mentioned BLM was set up as police brutality against the general public.

Bristol must have been the biggest city not to have had its own municipal bus company, at least not for many years, as it was pure NBC territory prior to deregulation.

I think that was to its detriment. When I lived there in the early 90’s I was shocked at how poor and expensive the bus services were for such a large city.

Same in the mid '80s when I was a student there. A very poorly planned network with little apparent rhyme and reason, ludicrously expensive, but then they had a monopoly and no local authority input.

I think Bristol's bus service was poor for decades, beset with staff shortages and operating in a city with dire traffic congestion, and little political will to do anything about it. It's only in recent years that a combination of investment in bus infrastructure, plus a determined effort by First to turn their operation around, has seen a marked improvement.

Nice of them to wait until a token month to celebrate him. They could have done it any other time of the year.

But won't they do that once this month ends and he'll go back to George Stephenson who? They painted a load of post boxes gold in places where someone tasted Olympic success which were left in situ for ages (wouldn't surprise me if they're still gold) but have only painted four post boxes black for this month in recognition of certain black people, one of which is on Acre Lane in Brixton close to the museum situated in Windrush Square. There is surely more than four important black people to be recognised?

There is surely more than four important black people to be recognised? It’s all just virtue signalling to show how woke they are. As a person of mixed heritage I am honest when I say I don’t like black history month. Teaching black history shouldn’t be confined to one month a year and it shouldn’t be talked about by the media once a year. Confining black history to one period a year just doesn’t help show how far we have come and I hope one day it will be part of mainstream culture rather than one month a year.

Reviving an old thread. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Bristol Bus Boycott in 1963, and Bristol Omnibus Company backing down and employing Black and Asian drivers and conductors from August of that year, First West of England has unveiled a commemorative vehicle which will operate in service in Bristol for at least twelve months. The special commemorative design features Black people who were prominent campaigners, as well as some of the pioneering Black workers. The vehicle is 39401 (YN17 OHP), a biogas-fuelled Scania N280UD/ADL Enviro400 City. www.route-one.net/news/bristol-bus-boycott-60th-anniversary-marked/
